Sensory hair cell loss is the major cause of hearing and balance disorders. Mammals are incapable of sustained hair cell regeneration, but lower vertebrates can regenerate these mechano-electrical transducers. We present the first comprehensive transcriptome (by mRNA- Seq) of hair cell regeneration in the chick utricle. We provide pathway and pattern annotations and correlate these with the phenotypic events that occur during regeneration

Haven't even been ice skating.

Ever wonder how 17 years of your life can just have disappeared (that's nearly 24%).

In the service of good?

At least I didn't get me knees whacked.

Hey there, say Zay...
Suck it up, big boy.

Many excuses for not doing routes
Like, "Oh, man, I forgot my damn boots."
etc.

Whitey: "Drizzle drazzle druzzle, Drone. Time for us to head back home."
Drone: "It stopped raining, Mike."

Putting it here so I do not lose it

But thanks to the mouse family for participating

The study breaks new ground because researchers developed a novel drug-delivery method. Specifically, it targets the cochlea, a snail-like structure in the inner ear where sensitive cells convey sound to the brain. Hearing loss occurs due to aging, working with noisy machines and too many loud concerts. Over time, hair-like sensory cells and bundles of neurons that transmit their vibrations break down, as do ribbon-like synapses, which connect the cells.

The researchers designed a molecule combining 7,8-dihydroxyflavone, which mimics a protein critical for development and function of the nervous system, and bisphosphonate, a type of drug that sticks to bones. The pairing of the two delivered the breakthrough solution, the researchers said, as neurons responded to the molecule, regenerating synapses in mouse ear tissue that led to repair of the hair cells and neurons, which are essential to hearing.

I'm glad to report that it seems Larry Jones is more mobile...he had hip replacement done and it is still early days.

He's outside taking pix and getting about better, it seems.

And I thank you for them, old pal.

I've been reminiscing now and again about 45 years ago in late March when Doug Ross and I joined up to climb the Big Stone.

It's been awesome living to see what Alex Honnold and Hans and Gobright and Caldwell and Florine and the Hubers and all the rest have accomplished since.

The biggest contrast has to be the style...all free or go home.

The huge style gulf between Piton Pete and Alex Honnold is like the one separating Mar a Lago from the Mexican ice cream vendor on a tricycle.

My biggest regret is that THERE ARE NO PIX of the Salathe nor of NWFHD--a pity, what?

Not that we were that photogenic nor were our deeds heroic or even above average, but, you know, for keepsakes...for the shoe box.

"Make America White Again," is what the nationalistic bastards really want.

Don't be food. Be your predator self when staring these as#@&%es down.

Shithole rhetoric don't make it.

Trump is embarrassingly un-cool. Forget hip.[Click to View YouTube Video]

What was hip in '72-'73-'74-'75 in the Bay Area was about the same as in Miami is how it seems to me.

The whole place became hipper than possible in Berkeley in comparison to living in the City. But the Palo Alto crowd? Meh. Dilettantes when it came to protest and change. They had the Dead. Big deal.

The City folk were cool, no question. Peggy and Throwpie lived there for a time before migrating to Berkeley. My lady worked in the City for Cost+, but found it was better in the East Bay, Jack London Square.

JLS is very near the Oakland Coliseum, home of the World Champion A's and it doesn't get much hipper unless you pile on an NFL Super Bowl championship and an NBA title for the Bay Area at the same time.

In Berkeley the puka shell necklace (coral bits optional but hip) and loose full-sleeved shirt (head band for formal wear) and MAYBE a gold chain. NOT LOADED WITH BLING! Did we even call it bling back then? Can't recall.

But I'm a Berkeley/Merced centrist...you have a different perspective, natch.

And I'm just maundering...such an old fool.

Justice Just Is
A special report from the Congressional Hearings
On Malfeasance and Shenanigans at The Very Top

Being a trained investigator, I smelled a rat.

This Bozo was not shooting straight.

Also, being a trained psychologist and gunsmith,
I could tell beyond question that he was a few
rounds short of a full mag.

He was up there blowing smoke,
and the committee wasn't really buying it.

Give them credit, they seemed to have it all
sewn up--and then the special prosecutor
called him to testify.

So he swore an oath. (Smirking here.)

He is not up there telling harmless white lies,
my friends.

He is creating some orange whoppers which will no
doubt be backed up by rumors, tweeted "facts," and
the shifting of blame elsewhere besides at the door
to the Offal Orifice.

He will likely mislead and misdirect and it will drag
on and on and soon he'll be gone, if fate so decides.

Until then, or whenever,
"Can I get cheese on those Whoppers, Mr. Rat?"

Sidebar for Miss Molly--
Oh, how sorry I am for you to have to get
permission from this vermin to marry a frog.

He doesn't like the idea you're marrying a foreigner,
I know.

Good luck.

You guys should move away from that swamp, I'm tellinya.

Rift
Phish

Last night, in the moments my thoughts were adrift

And coasting a terrace, approaching a rift

Through which I could spy several glimpses beneath

Of the darkness the light from above could not reach

I spied wings of reason, herself taking flight

And upon yonder precipice saw her alight

And glared back at me one last look of dismay

As if she were the last one she thought I'd betray

So much better I said to myself

And drawing quite close to the top of the shelf

I struggled with destiny upon the ledge

And gasped when defeated he slipped off the edge

And silence contagious in moments like these

Consumed me and strengthened my will to appease

The passion that sparked me one terrible night

And shocked and persuaded my soul to ignite

So much…more

Of the Value of a Middle Name

gno·mon
/ˈnōmən/
noun
1.
the projecting piece on a sundial that shows the time
by the position of its shadow.
2.
GEOMETRY
the part of a parallelogram left when a similar parallelogram
has been taken from its corner.

"gnomon" is sometimes confused with "nomen"

no·men
/ˈnōmən/
noun
the second personal name of a citizen of ancient Rome,
indicating the gens to which he belonged,
for example, Marcus Tullius Cicero.

So, based on this research, our poster-boy for garblebase,
has a nomen, though he's not a Roman.

"Ofthe."

Were I a loyal Roman, with my three-part internet name,
I'd seek this surefire method to win eternal fame:

I'd gladly be a Roman senator, namely Mouse "from" Merced.
And I'd gladly bash our own "Caesar" upon his orange head.
I'd kick him when he'd fallen, and dance upon his grave,
For he's not a man to love, just a disgraced lying knave.

I don't know what prompts all this rage.
Maybe because DT's behavior is so outrageous?
Maybe cuz there are so many stoopid supporters who fall for his BS?
Maybe
