All IS "well." It's HEART warming to hear from the Lost One of Shanghai, or Jay, as he is also called.

That buffet sounds like a good idea this morning, but we're havin' tamales ce soir, nawmean? Traditional Mex. I'd feel like I was piggin' out.

Here's how they used to pig out in Sicily at Nonna Elvira's.
http://www.italymagazine.com/featured-story/my-family-christmas-eve-sicily-and-feast-24-treats

My gal Liz had a friend who was Sicilian, invited us over to her place
one Xmas eve for smelt, little fishies fried crispy. She insistsaid that
it was her family's (or her husband's family's) honored tradition. I wish
that I could remember that woman's name. Her son, Damian, was a close friend
of our son Scott, a skating/mayhem buddy, was raising a large female python.
I had to take Damien's word on its gender, but he also tried to gull me
by telling me about his snake's family tradition of feasting on mice on
Xmas eve. The little moco.

All I can do is to hope that The Lonely find some nugget of humankindness this holiday season.

Let us speak of the "significant," the "meaningful," the "sublime;"
use our time wisely, profoundly, usefully, and in a generally acceptable manner
(not necessarily politically correct, mind you);
and, if in print, readably and grammatically correct with gud spelling, for the most part.
Or we could talk about mundane matters of no moment outside of a small circle.
The Local Yokel Society, LYS, or "lies," for short. That's what I wanna know, I'm tellinya.

I’m tearing down that blasphemous wall...

No Fake Christmas’s

I’ll be not faking Christmas
or Christmas cheer you see
It’s not hard to not fake Christmas
like the Christmas grinch that’s me

That act’s been wearing thin
before the ship sailed out to sea
As stubborn as I’ve been years past
intractable as can be

I’m not faking when I tell you
I’m not doing this for me
It’s just that those who need me
need a Christmas nonsense free

So I’ll put some not fake presents
under the not fake Christmas tree
And light the not fake fire
beneath the not fake Yuletide string

While many Americans gathered with their families and
with his vacation to the "Winter White House" at Mar-a-Lago iced by the shutdown,
the President spent the day at the White House blasting critics --
including Democrats who have refused his demands for $5 billion in
funding for his border wall in a standoff that shuttered
the government at midnight on Friday.

"I am all alone (poor me) in the White House waiting for the Democrats
to come back and make a deal on desperately needed Border Security,"
Tump wrote in what may have been a tongue in cheek tone in his 10th tweet of the day.

Grievance is the reason for his season.

Merry Christmas to all on the Flames thread past and present,

Today the mop bucket came in handy when a strange dream woke me at 4:00 am and I sensed something was amiss. So I got up and found my poor diabetic Lab Emma waiting to be let out by the back door.

Sweet girl, she’s normally fast asleep until I get up. But I knew instantly by her state that I’d forgotten to give her insulin shot the night before and that she needed to go out to do her business. Of course she’d been waiting for me half the night so I took her and her brother Luke out in the yard for a few minutes in the rain, and then we went back inside to where I knew I’d find the consequences of my mistake.

Sweet girl, usual result when I forget her insulin is that after several hours without her usual shot, she will piddle in spots around the house on the hardwood floor, and try as she might, she ends up hitting a couple of large rugs which I have to spend hours cleaning. But last night she managed to pee in between all of the rugs in the office without hitting a one.

So that was her Christmas gift to me, my not having to disassemble a queen bed and clean the large section of carpet beneath it. Needless to say I narrowly averted a back wrecking job for me and I thank her for it. They are such good dogs and are incredibly sweet. It really helps to have their loving faces in our lives, especially in this difficult time.

PS
Thank you Mouse for your thoughts and moral support for us during our loss, and it means a lot to me. I wish and hope no one here has gone through or has to go through the loss of a child like we have.

I am grateful our son Manuel got to see his two kids grow up and find love, a career path, and become independent before he passed. I regret that he never experienced becoming a grandparent like his mom and I, and I’m sure he would have been a great one, but his this was not to be.

Hug your families this holiday and always, and hold them close in your hearts, for we never know what life gives us or takes from us beforehand or unexpectedly. Such are the gifts and losses of life. Today we’ll be with our whole menagerie and all the pets, in both body and/or spirit, to celebrate Christmas together and I’m sure it will be a mostly happy time.

I wish a happy holiday to all those here...
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!

Ah Tim, yur such a eloquent one. There's a lot of what Tobin had inside and shared willingly and eagerly with us inside of you, too.

I cannot thank you enough for the shot in the arm your contributions here have been.

The Naz, whose natal day we Christians celebrate with tinsel and glitter and boughs and candles and eats, told us that we are our brother's keepers.

"Brothers" has a broad interpretation. I choose to interpret it as meaning the entire world's human population, EVERYONE.

"God bless us, everyone."--Tiny Tim Cratchett

John 4:20/ Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.

I have a load to share, myself. My daughter, Bevin, the melodious lady, sent me a terse (it was good, though) reply to my own tersely worded birthday/Christmas email yesterday, so at least I know she's alive. We've not communicated in a long while, which seems to be normal. But she's gone through a breakup in her fairly longtime partnership and I know it can't be easy. But she has her mom, who's well-heeled enough to fly down to visit from the NW, so she doesn't NOT have family around this time of year, at least. I just wish I were able to visit as easily.

It was still a fine day yesterday, what with Vern and Dawn's family here to make tamales. My friend Laurie was able to join in with the festivities, as well, so we two were very happy and had fun.

Tim, I know how the mopping goes, as these pups aren't yet housebroken. We still find the odd log and puddle and it's a darn good thing these floors are not carpeted!

Godspeed, and I'm happy to hear the Labs are still here. I was worried.

DMT, thanks and have a great day; though it's cold and blustery here, your heart is warm and kind.

My personal best to yur travelin' companion, the estimable Sasha, Lady Scarlett.
Over 70 years now.

I'm happy to hear of your clearing skies and lungs, Dingus.

My heart soars like the hawk, grandson.--Old Lodgeskins

Actor Chief Dan George monologue:

Do you see this fine thing?
Do you admire the humanity of it?
Because the human beings, my son, they believe everything is alive.
Not only man and animals, but also water, earth, stone.
And also the things from them like that hair.
The man from whom this hair came, he’s bald on the other side, because I now own his scalp!
That is the way things are.
But the white man, they believe everything is dead.
Stone, earth, animals, and people!
Even their own people!
If things keep trying to live, white man will rub them out.
That is the difference.

There is a soft breeze now, and the clouds have parted.

On a day like today, in the Christmases past, my father and I would maybe go out and play nine, sneaking onto the back nine at his club.

Or it was known to happen that we'd go out to Merced Falls for some A1 bait fishing for trout. A1 was the name of the Merced Falls bait & supply store.

Boomer could make gin fizzes (silver or gold) all morning long for those willing to drink them while mom and Lenna and helpers cooked and fussed.

Midnight mass on Christmas Eve took care of obligations and the whole day was free for whatever. We were not big on going to newly-released movies.

Games of course, not on cell phones, but real card and board games, fought to the bitter end. A particular favorite was the combination game of cards called Tripoley, mixing MI Rummy, Hearts, and Poker.
Cribbage was huge during the nineties in our family, as well as Pictionary.
