Now that Brian Deese, Senior Advisor to the President, The White House and I are corresponding, I thought I'd share a little bit.

Here is where Herr Obama will be heading for the first time tomorrow.

The Everglades

Acadia National Park

Does Obama pack, or is he a knife man? And we're not 'bout Skeeter Davis here.

Struck the courthouse out of shape.

Real estate, yeah, but a man can't live there. Can a dog? Don't know, I'll ask Ruby, she'll probably just yelp and shake my hand, "no".

At least the Kingston Trio and the Everly Brothers could get along even if the police and Rodney King (and everybody else?) couldn't.

Live and let live, even share your guitar riffs. What came first, the chicken-little or the gator?

[Click to View YouTube Video]As I have stated elsewhere, I owned no guns in the past.
I DO, however, appreciate their place in our lives as a means of keeping the peace, not necessarily as a means of settling disputes except as a very last resort.

Men like Chris W. Cocks don't care what I think, though. I don't know WHAT they are thinking.

These fellows seem to think they are untouchable, apparently.

It was good to see this Yahoo "expose" of how these DICKS go about their business. And it is a business, so why give them any more tax advantages?

This is not the Gun Debate Sandbox, but it is my soapbox.

If my ethics were as warped as theirs, the NRA would be footing the bill for the Rim fire.

THAT'S A JOKE, PRIVATE PYLE! YOU WILL LAUGH ONLY ON COMMAND! NOW LAUGH!

"Sir, ha-ha, sir!"

I heard a stupid rumor that the rockfall that wiped the Old Coulterville Road turn-off at the Cookie Cliff was caused by echoing gunfire.

That's enough. What with the Telegraph fire, the Rim fire, and all these Marines at home on the gun range, it's too Smokey in here.

Time to lighten up with Patsy.[Click to View YouTube Video]
So ever'body grab a partner and dosey-do!

So what brought all this down like a rockfall at Squamish? I went to the VA Clinic for my appt. with Doc Love and he's telling me I'm NOT going in for hernia surgery anytime soon. I have had another bout of Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) which was the reason for my legs swelling as they did.

He mentioned nothing of the sort the last visit. As long as the hernia is not painful, I will survive. He is far more concerned with my staying alive, I suppose, than being able to be active.

I have also been told by Doc Love that I should not go to altitudes for any length of time, as it risks my life. He put the kibosh on my attending the City of Rocks get-together. Sad, but I'll get over it.

It's the way the old boulder tumbles, to use a sport-trundling term.

Traditional trundlers pretend they aim, but they don't, you see.

I will not deny myself the Yosemite Facelift, but I may use discretion and only attend for half a week this year, to please the Doc.

He tells me that I'm going on two new meds, too. And he's ordered support stockings for me as well. It seems I have in my calves a condition known as venous stasis, which is defined as "congestion and slowing of circulation in veins due to blockage by either obstruction or high pressure in the venous system, usually best seen in the feet and legs."

VS is a risk factor for forming blood clots in veins (venous thrombosis), as with the deep veins of the legs (deep vein thrombosis or DVT).

If you saw the condition of the skin on my legs, you might remark on it. It resembles tree bark, to me. I need a lanolin-based lotion to be applied after showering when the skin is still damp. He's ordered something along that line for me to try, as well.

I'm exercising judgement in my old age like I never did when younger. I simply want to stick around to enjoy my friends: Gnome's continued outraged banter, raised middle digit and all; zBrown's moderating influence and humor; Gypsy's photos; Throwpie's commentary; the occasional drop-in by others here on The Flames; Supertopo in all its guises (entertainment, education, message board, rants, etc.); and neebee's painting and amiability.

Weege, do we have enough padding here? I can find some more. I just got three sofa cushions, each six inches thick by @ 24" on a side, from an old sofa someone left on the fifth floor landing. I'm trying to accommodate everyone, see. And you are special, being both dead and alive.

By the way, arrogance becomes you.

I think the ammo box is empty. Time to collect the brass and sell it off.

The desk clerk/receptionist at the VA Clinic, a good man and a real white-hat, has a silly photo posted of "Tim's Desk" which has Gunny Hartman's picture on it.

It triggered all this shyte.

I managed to eat two of the donuts next to the coffee urn (it was a slow Monday out there, hardly anyone waiting) and then snatched another for the road. They were excellent!

I managed the ride out and back on the bike in about twenty minutes, just about the same time as if I'd taken a city bus, so I got my low-impact aerobic workout this morning.

This is a perfect day, temperature-wise, only in the mid-seventies. And the rest of the week promises to be the same.

Evergreen perennial.

You could do worse than plant this around your domicile.

Fairly drought-resistant.

Deer-resistant.

Do you mind the smell of onions?

Do you mind a big mess and a big maintenance burden?

You can always wash your hands. I'm moving some of the big ones (dark green) in front to the back and replacing them with the smaller (light green variety).

Too lazy to take a photo. Interesting that all the Google images show the light green ones as much bigger than mine. Who'd a thought 'garlic envy".

Well maybe not all. They are very ez to grow and don't require much water. Bugz don't like them, presumably because of the smell.

hey there say, mouse... read the doc visit... also, say,
perhaps, just for a history note:

you could share that bit of the telegraph fire, in the fire thread?
someone might remember it and want to comment? as to hmmm, whatever...

you never know... might help out, too, ?, with insight, ?

thanks for sharing...

wow, hope the 'flow' settles down again, here,
one remembers that, the debris flows can do damage, oh my...

i just learned about this from the crater thread...
debris flows build up, and happen, a bit different than an outright mudslide...

"That's some magic loogie there."--Seinfeld

What are the chances of anything happening in the first place, let alone subsequently?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poisson_distribution

What are the chances of a trout, for example, surviving a debris flow in a creek channel?

What are the chances that this magic trout will find a mate and continue the line?

I'm just wonderin'.

Homework assignment. Read this and tell me what it says.
http://m759.net/wordpress/?m=201407

The rocket scientist knew about Gravity's Rainbow, no doubt.

How many debris flow events have happened in Yosemite's past?

There is no "Stock answer" to that question, likely, except this: "Quien sabe?"

Rockfall, avalanche, mudslide.

Debris flow, trundling, 100-year flood.

Earthquake, landslide, dropped hardware.

Dust storm, slope creep, lava flow.

Cats and dogs, meteors, and sky-falls.

"Only good things come from above."

You all remember that shitty kids' joke, right?

And Throwpie, who can forget Too Loose to Trek?

HAPPY EARTH DAY!

On June 22, 1969, the Cuyahoga River on the southern shores of Lake Erie caught on fire as chemicals, oil, and other industrial materials that had oozed into the river somehow ignited. Just a few months before, on January 28, 1969, an oil rig leaked millions of gallons of oil off the coast of Santa Barbara. That same year, reports surfaced that our national symbol, the bald eagle, was rapidly declining as a species due to the chemical DDT, while around the world, whales were being hunted nearly to extinction. These and other incidents caught the attention of the national media and galvanized public awareness of the many environmental insults being hurled at the nation and the planet.

In response to the public outcry, Earth Day Founder Gaylord Nelson, who served as the Governor of Wisconsin (1958-1962) and in the U.S. Senate (1963-1981), organized a nationwide "teach-in" about environmental issues to take place on April 22, 1970. More than 2,000 colleges and universities, 10,000 public schools, and 20 million citizens participated—nearly 10 percent of the U.S. population at that time.

This outpouring of grassroots environmental activism marked the first Earth Day—a recognition of the importance of caring for the environment and accepting stewardship responsibility for the nation's resources.

MISSION

I've worked at my work
I've slept at my sleep
I've died at my death
And now I can leave
Leave what is needed
And leave what is full
Need in the Spirit
And need in the Hole
Beloved, I'm yours
As I've always been
From marrow to pore
From longing to skin
Now that my mission
Has come to its end:
Pray I'm forgiven
The life that I've led
The Body I chased
It chased me as well
My longing's a place
My dying a sail
