Today I finished reading Ivan Doig's novel "The Sea Runners."

I shall always regret not having read this sooner.

Doig's is not a unique voice, but a rare one.

Garblebase is such an amazing lingo. All those words to say virtually nothing.

If words make sense only to oneself, well, what can I tellya?

There oughta be a federal limit on the number of words a person can use up in a year and a federal program in place to reward the quietest citizens.

What will it be? Talk on the phone in an emergency or tell the kids you're over your annual limit and the first responders won't be responding?

It's too bad there's no word recycling going on, as well. Except, of course, in used bookshops and St. Vincent de Paul and Salvation Army (though the SA never has much of interest).

Well, it's going to be a unique bullet train, according to local rumor. In boarding the train, you'll automatically become de-materialized; then your bits are herded into a long container with all of the bits of other travellers going where you're going; and then, when the container is full, it is tele-transported to the destination where the individual bits are reassembled. There is essentially no fuel cost, so the construction costs may be recovered over time. But they still wanna put people to work, so the construction keeps on dragging along...

This "tele-transpo" is a method that is very popular on the planet Tralfamadore, where all beings exist in all times.

As I said, this is all just a rumor, and a rather hifalutin' one at that, but it'd save a heck of a lot of fuel, so the folks say.

Just the local gossip, otherwise.
http://blog.rarenewspapers.com/?p=526

Just a word on the technology of tele-transpo as it applies to YV--it's a no-no, like drones. You didn't hear it from me, though.

Nice tunes, P.
