Tourist Attraction

Stop me if you've heard this tail
Swishing around just like a flail

Moving molecules of desert debris
It aids him as he climbs free

Living on the Northern Rim
No one's ever roped up with him

He prefers to climb alone
Never needs a cellular phone

Claims kinship to Jim Morrison
Believes he just might be his son

A bit long (especially if you are on a "plan") but good for the muse in you.

For those whose taste does not run in the direction of Ganymede,
there are the abundant pleasures of Venus.

And the question then arises, spoiling it,
"What does she REALLY want for Christmas?"

Badawang

Art Stanley was a quiet man

Drew paintings of ancient Japan

He lived to be a hundred and ten

Thatís when his afterlife began

In the world of the Badawang

Where images like rivers ran

On Jakartaís streets at festival

While playing in the band

Did Old Art get gamelanned?

That's prolly not what he'd planned.

Prolly hoped he'd be getting tanned

While lying on a beach of sand.

Wind chill is always expressed in the Farenheit scale.

They tell me wind chill cannot be determined without converting C to F.

Likewise, one needs to convert KPH to MPH and then do the calculation.

Mistress Jean

Oh cold Mistress Jean
Sheís got something up her sleeve
Itís treason or something even more deceiving
Itís hard to believe
Hard to believe

School me for something
School me and Iíll play
Show me the good stuff
I canít say itís enough for me
Play that harp for me now
Play it louder

Oh cold Mistress Jean
Sheís got something up her sleeve
Itís murder or something even more deceiving
Itís easy to believe now
Easy to believe

They never told me
When I was in school then
What a womanís touch would do for my soul
It would turn me wicked or make me a believer
I donít know
I just donít know

Oh cold Mistress Jean
Sheís got something up her sleeve
Itís betrayal or something worth believing
Whatís so hard to believe?
Hard to believe

Iíve been hanging round these halls
These halls of Valhalla
Iíve been hanging here at the school of mystery
Whatís real and whatís not
Iíve got to know
Got to know

Oh cold Mistress Jean
Is there something here worth believing?
Sheís said sheís going to tell me
Iíve go to believe
Itís hard to believe

Who says it's no country for old men?
Who says it's no country for old men?
Bugiale Ė The Lie Factory
(grazie a Poggio Bracciolini)

Washington toadies of today
You are not much different from the Roman curia of yesteryear
Monumentous and full of history
Full of men who lie for a living
Some well-paid for their forgiving
Of the faults and misdeeds of others

Elected by man or sanctioned by God
Each institution meant to serve the greater good
But neither fulfilling its role
Both a source of derision
But in each place and time comedic relief abounds

Glorious greatness of the past
Embodied in a touchstone or an ideal
Is a lie, in effect, for greatness is a lie
Because we are all the same everywhere in all times
But nothing hallows like time and distance

There are no saints and never were
The halo is a symbol of nothing
A hole in the soul being more apt
But there are no souls
Only atoms or the void
As reason dictates

So lies are met with facetious commentary
Because no one wants to witness
The horror of what is
Because no one wants to remember
The horror of what was
Because no one really hopes
For anything better
For they would possibly lose
What they have though what they have is tainted

And what have we
That is worth what they ask?
We have no honoróitís been sold
We have no trustóitís been given away
We have nothing left with which to bargain
But receipts for our taxes

Two carts loaded with the same cargo
--Falsehoods, concupiscence, love of money--
Stuck in an endless rut that is filled with muck
No one at the reins and no one tending the helm
No moral compass to guide and no lookouts posted

But the onlookers just sit giggling
--Their attitudes are so snide--
Their self-righteousness is mirrored in screens
Across the nation and around the world
Across time and defying history
From Washington to old Roma and back again

The Anchorage

This morning more noise
As the television blabs
ĎBout collusion or probes or
Inappropriate grabs
My glasses all smudged
But the sky is not foggy
The clock says Iím late
And my corn flakes are soggy
But my ethics are clear
I donít have to weave lies
As I go off to work
With a shrug and a sigh
