Having foregone a joke about ice in the hot gaz-pah-cho, I checked the front page and found out why Flames do no ice climbing. The stuff melts!

The number of U.S. Climbers who have broken their backs is greater than the number of Germans or French.
It may be a fluke, but no that's just a fish.
Could be, that sunny days of repetitive climbing, cause it, No, that can not be it either, maybe it is the water, some how?
But theN how to explain the Italian equation? Climbers from the boot-shaped Land mass
are not saved the distraction of vertebrae shaped so that they impinge on evacuation.

The waters of the Mediterranean Sea are all the same as the pacific, salty.

Don't get me started on wordplay this late at night. It's like giving a kid espresso and a donut and then back to his mom!

"spelt"

An old kind of wheat with bearded ears and spikelets that each contain two narrow grains, not widely grown but favored as a health food. Compare with "einkorn," "emmer."

Also compare with "smelt" for poetic papooses.

Smelts are a family of small fish, Osmeridae, found in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. They are also known as freshwater smelts or typical smelts to distinguish them from the related Argentinidae, Bathylagidae, and Retropinnidae.

Or it is how metallic objects like Pitons camming devices and nuts and carabiners and hammers begin life, as ore which is smelted.

"Let's do this: you smelt my pins, I'll smelt your nuts. We'll combine the smelt from last night--they're a bit off anyway. It should yield something interesting."

"Have you been into that moldy spelt, Mouse? WTF?"

"Of course, but it smelt good to me. How old is it, Ergot?"

Oh no I said rainbow, that must now be followed by this

"There will come at time when things once seen as strange. Seem familiar!"

That was not properly attributed to R Hunter or the song,; (. C . . or the band,)
Terripin Station or it's referral to living the 'hi'life, and seeing the triply as not grippy at all
Leslie Stahl, the 20/20 host on TV used the songs lyric, to describe Bruce Jenner's conversion to Catlin or whatever she's calling herself now.

The need to keep my piece, at peace is a pretty daunting job too.

Mine is Jelloof of your, other half and the wonderful life you tease and do not share like your response to compliments from the users of the silent Partner, I wonder do you have a search that alerts you when the device is mentioned?
I have not bought one twice now but I will I hope soon.
This needs pictures , links and music.
I can't now remember where that thread was where the S partner, is called a gravity drum, like a seat belt retraction system. The response from the team was three to ten word answers that stung the poster who was complimenting your device, or Blanchards
In bold, Ekat, wrought a week ago, at least,
"You do not know what your talking about"
To a person trying to plug the silent partner as the best solo belay device out there.
Ekat's replyes had no explanation, just vitriolic snappy - your sh!t, we are not going to share any thing with you the target market as to what the technological works are, but they are not what you say, you know nothing.
I hope that y'all sell the patent and it gets produced,by a firm that has better spokespeople,
That kinda excludes, Ichthys Products, but still maybe a joint venture with the main man of bombproof soft gear?

LOL

Mouse, thank you for the lemon pie sky this morning. I can see tiny bits of meringue on top, too.

And for how you cleverly got two books nested into one title with "Illustrating "Night, Sand, and Stars." By Tony de Saint-Exupery." Night Flight is good. Wind, Sand, and Stars, I probably read once every five years or so. Bravo! on the vague, slightly obscured literary reference. Of course, Tony's last name pretty much gives it away. And his full name, of course, was Antoine Marie Jean-Baptiste Roger, comte de Saint Exupéry. Quite a remarkable fellow, even leaving out "The Little Prince".

Gnome, I have been reading "The Whistling Season" by Ivan Doig, wherein there is a salient discussion about fish and ghoti, and how one can spell words a myriad of ways. Also mentioned elsewhere were the words "rough" "tough" "buff" and "stuff." You are correct: it is a matter of memorization for many words. But it gets worse with words such as appropriate (also mentioned in "Whistling") which can mean to be suitable to the situation, or else can mean to seize or take possession of. Our language is a verbal dance with some set rules but lots of exceptions and variations. Sort of like people and their lives. Or climbing.

Time to get back to work.
Thank you

"English Creek" is a little-known language used by Montana sheep men of Native American descent.

These tough hombres sleep ten times longer than most fellers up there in the mountains of Montucky.

You want any more veiled literary references, EVER, feralfae, just let me know.

Now, having had blueberry "Pancakes for Breakfast," * it's time to go to the bunkhouse and count sheep. Hope I get a ride to Shuteye.

the rose, by any other name, would it smell as sweet?

Now that i have messed that up i will google it and get it right . . .

What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;

Origin:
In Act II, Scene II [1] of the play, the line is said by Juliet in reference to Romeo's house, Montague which would imply that his name means nothing and they should be together.

Juliet:

O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name;
Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,
And I'll no longer be a Capulet.

Romeo:

[Aside] Shall I hear more, or shall I speak at this?

Juliet:

'Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part

Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What's in a name?

that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;

So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Take all myself.

Romeo:

I take thee at thy word:
Call me but love, and I'll be new baptized;
Henceforth I never will be Romeo.

se Iwas one of the first in this too.
and I was trim, Too

It was a toss up but this picture of me was such a cool find.
Thanks to a sweetheart past, who saw me last week and sent it along.

Then the poem from ff so here is the best that tells of my frustration and the way it is as the crucible of youth empties into the Flames,

Rudyard Kipling – Rolling down to Rio (from Just So Stories)

I’ve never sailed the Amazon,

I’ve never reached Brazil;

But the Don and Magdalena,

They can go there when they will!

Yes weekly from Southampton,

Great steamers, white and gold,

Go rolling down to Rio

(Roll down – roll down to Rio!)

And I’d like to roll to Rio

Some day before I’m old!

I’ve never seen a Jaguar

Nor yet an Armadill–

O dilloing in his armour,

And I s’pose I never will,

Unless I go to Rio

These wonders to behold–

Roll down – roll down to Rio –

Roll really down to Rio!

Oh, I’d love to roll to Rio

Some day before I’m old!

Here Gnome, for you:

Edna St. Vincent Millay

TO THE NOT IMPOSSIBLE HIM

How shall I know, unless I go
To Cairo and Cathay,
Whether or not this blessed spot
Is blest in every way?

Now it may be, the flower for me
Is this beneath my nose;
How shall I tell, unless I smell
The Carthaginian rose?

The fabric of my faithful love
No power shall dim or ravel
Whilst I stay here,--but oh, my dear,
If I should ever travel!

:) I thought you'd like some poetry to go with your beautiful roses. Thank you for the image.

Now back to work. :)

Gnome, the alpha Romeo. This is a car thread, right?

Honk!

Bravo, you bravo!

Winter Ball
by MFM

(Temorary License to Paraphrase applied for)

Granted to this bro, this bravo,

This Gnomeo is much blessing.

He sits in the bushes whilst Juliet is dressing.

Puck the Bardini is on watch atop the garden gate,

Hidden in shadow, for the hour is late.

Atop his game, despite his fame,

As a slacker and a dirtbag hero

His name is on every midsummer's eve climber's lips,

(Just then his left foot...it slips!)

"Oh-oh, Gnomeo, we're pucked! Rock!!!"

The game is up and Gnomeo must away

Like the light from yon window,

He breaks right, left, jukes right,

And then streaks past the startled garden gnome.

And that's why he's now knowm as the sprite of fall, not summer...

Poor Puck's being demoted to the minors.

In fact, he'll be playing winter ball in Mexico City,

(Certainly not in Rio or Cartagena or Buenos Aires)

For the Guadalupe Virgins, a St. LEBowitz, NM, Class AA farm team.

He'll at least add some luster to their roster.

And poor Juliet, what's it cost her?

Yes, Puck is a good belayer, if he's sober.

But he is really clumsy, folks.

He doesn't play ball very well any longer...

(My oh my! How, not Why, the Hot Stove League loves to talk about this!)

He had the most throwing errors of anyone

In the entire division the last two seasons.

But that's just Puck being Puck.

And he don't give a puck,

Cuz he's got his pick-up truck,

And he's off to Rodeo, California,

For some off-season Striper fishing (bass, not Yankees).
