Took heed of the bears and lions. Didn't smoke. Didn't even trespass, since the right to pass was never revoked.

Would have been a nice outing if not for that damned barbed_wire.

A never-ending fount of encouragement and uplift is my friend neebee.

I liked the idea of "Mouse's field." That was the special neebee touch and it means lots. Thanks. Like I said, my Aunt Marge sent a card, has every year since the boonies were babies.

As to the hernia, I heard from the surgical planning officer in a phone message. She says the doctor and she could not really clear me, it was premature on their part, apparently. The results from cardio plainly showed a depletion of potassium--they had the duty doc at ER call me to tell me to go into Mercy ER to have that remedied. I took the low road and did the reload by mouth rather than IV and now I can say I feel fine, but there is still the exam to be scheduled here at Mercy. They want to be 100% on the heart issue and I cannot blame them. It's simply so frustrating when John got his hernia taken care of within six weeks and I'm still waiting two years later...

I think they may have known a little about the sport by then.

A bit of end-of-the-month fasting going on here this week, prompted by the usual "fiscal embarrassment." I'm glad I need to do this...keeps me grateful for what I have and some pounds off, as well.

But I still THINK ABOUT FOOD. I'm nourishing my soul with memories of a great breakfast I shared with hooblie (at his expense on my birthday--thanks, man) in a place called Rollerville in Point Arena.

I looked it up on Yelp! and the standard Yelper's complaints arose. I have a feeling we were lucky, though the morning we were in the cook wasn't the same as usual (or something--I've forgotten the situation since).

As it is, I had no complaints, only high praise for the service (provided by the owner, Anisha). She's a painter and her work is for sale on the walls and it adds to the decor, which is rustic kitchen. We sat in what was once the glassed-in front porch of this old place. Enclosed front porches are a normal thing in sun-deprived locations like beach towns. (The entire neighborhood in Pacific Grove was built like this when I lived there in Apathy House with Jones and the Rev and Howard, who occupied the front porch behind glass.)

Here are the Yelp! reviews...a mixed bag.

https://www.yelp.com/biz/rollerville-cafe-point-arena

I had the notion of asking way back in the coastal town of Gualala what the best local short-order place was. The cheerful gal in the Chevron told me there was a dearth of such in the area and to try Rollerville, the best place, "hands down." It is roughly two miles up from Point Arena proper.

There's a way to cultivate good service, but there is little way to alter the quality of the food in places where you've never eaten. Treat the wait staff nicely is rule one. I asked in a complimentary way about the paintings (Anisha's work, mostly). hooblie asked about the structure itself. Anisha took pride in the place and this all came out in a leisurely manner...we were in no hurry and frankly I don't remember how long the food took, only that it was delicious and there was almost too much.

I had the chicken-fried steak and hooblie had huevos rancheros. Prices in places like this are high. That's a given. Tourons are prey for innkeepers and restarateurs EVERYWHERE there is a sight to see along the coast of California. Get used to it, Rohnert Parkers up for a day cruise.

Had it not been for hooblie's generous nature my birthday might have been just another joyless day in Mudville. So hooblie, you have my official
"Thank you, sir."

No pictures...I'd run out of batteries by this time and hadn't brought the charger (DOH!).

I have an anecdote you may not have seen in the herd.

Rene Descartes was at a high-toned salon and one of the waiters came by with a tray of hors d'oeuvres.

The waiter asked M. Descartes, "Would you care for one, monsieur?"

M. Descartes responded, "I think not." And he promptly disappeared.

I, too, have anecdotes, none so wild as yours, however.

I have few in comparison, as well.

Therefore, I am on a "tight ration;" but it's having no effect. Doc? What's to do?

Morning, actually.

This pour started about midnight and the noise hasn't stopped since, so I'm sleep-deprived in someplace other than Seattle once again.
