Haven't spent any time there in a few years. Can you get a decent cup of coffee now? Could only find average stuff at a fancy bskery.

Jim,

I'm not the coffee conoissseur of Bishop, but after you visit me, you might try Black Sheep Coffee Roasters or the Looney Bean. Both on Main Street.

Very nice iPhone photos..... the ones I take never look that good.

Let all of us know when Donini is in Town.... I want to buy that man a Beer.

And see him in action on the Sport Climbs in the ORG.

Watch out Jim, Bishop is the new Sun City for retired climbers.

You might like the vibe

I do.

What kind of coffee do you like Jim?

If third wave means anything to you then I could hook you up with some okay coffee. If you like the dark roast stuff then the coffee shops in town will suit you.

I have the best coffee in town. After you have tried the rest stop by my place for good coffee.
I'm planning some day to come to Chile & buy property near you. If you came here had my coffee & told stories of chile to my wife it would speed thing up.

FRUMY: do you roast coffee? I'd love to find a few people in town to start an informal "roasting group" to roast & learn with. For the most part I haven't found anyone in town that knows what good coffee is.

Don Lauria- We've been cleaning out the Library at Palisade Glacier High. I've pulled out a bunch of old books in there from theSmoke Blanchard collection. I figured maybe they came from you? Do you have any interest in these books?

Skitch/Jim- look up the owner of Blacksheep. He started roasting on an old popcorn popper attached to a transformer. He'd start so light it tasted like tea, and work up toward dark. Now he's got beans from all over and many roasts.

So, Guyman, when are you leaving that Godforsaken coastal sinkhole and moving to Bishop?

Pretty sure Guyzo would prefer Kernville over Bishop. Let's just start with the simple fact that Bishop has a sorry excuse for a brewery ;)

However, the Bishop brewery is a million times better than the one up the hill in Mammoth!

How do home prices compare between Bishop and Kernville?

Relatively the same. Both towns have great playgrounds nearby. Heck, my house in Riverkern is less than a mile away from Kern Slabs. Of course, there's Valhalla, Rincon, Salmon Creek Falls, New Direction, Ghost and Spirit Rock, Bald Eagle, French Gulch Boulder Garden, The Owl, all of the Domelands and, of course, The Needles and Dome Rock. I'm sure I'm missing a ton more. Kernville lacks fast food joints and my ex-wife......thank God! Are you looking to move away from L.A., Jan?

So, Guyman, when are you leaving that Godforsaken coastal sinkhole and moving to Bishop?

In due time.... by blowing most of a decade, due to being a "serious climber" I didn't really get a job till I was like 28, so I am on the catch-up track with the 401K.... and that godforsaken COASTAL sinkhole contains my house, that goes up and up in value each and every year, especially of late... one of my neighbors just sold for 525....

Pretty sure Guyzo would prefer Kernville over Bishop. Let's just start with the simple fact that Bishop has a sorry excuse for a brewery ;)

Ha ha ahahah Mooch.... don't kid yourself, Bishop is a multi-fun-activity zone.... Kernville on the other hand, has some decent climbing, fab MTB and if I ran rivers...or even liked water sports... great kayaking... but the Fishing sucks big time due to the fact that stocked trout is all they have because they will not poison the all the trash fish and make the Kern a catch-n-release river so Kernville is pretty much a one-trick pony town....and the BEST BEER IN THE UNIVERSE comes from MY HOME BREWERY. The KR Brewing Co is a really great one though, happy to see them make it, unlike most restaurants in Kernville.

And the Bishop Brewery is pretty sorry... very overpriced food and drink... IMHO.... I like the Casino, hit that place at happy hour... 1/2 price Food and Drink and you can bring that very young climber chick in for drinks too because they don't even check ID's.

I love the place....

I sure do love Bishop. I know that it has changed since I lived there almost 30 years ago, but even then, real estate was pricey. There isn't very much land. Los Angeles owns so much.

It would be great if L.A. sold the SURFACE rights, at least, to a few sections (section = square mile), helping to keep the cost of living in Bishop down.

How hard is it to dirt bag it these days? The last time I came through, quite a while ago. The L.A. DWP had put up signs virtually EVERYWHERE. So there were few places to crash. Back in my day you could toss your sleeping bag virtually anywhere.

I'm asking, because I'll be visiting the area for a good month next year to paraglide. I refuse to pay to sleep.
