Either that or it's a proof of life photo as part of a K&R negotiation?

Darn picture does not show it, but this is a immature Bald Eagle on the south side of town. I've been seeing two adults for the last few month - then this young one - hope they start breeding here.
And yes rare sighting E-Kat.

Actually not entirely rare. Been watching this guy for over a year now. Circled me while fly fishing on the river the last three days. Watched him catch a thermal for like 20 minutes the other day. He go got so high I just couldn't see it anymore. Bunch of Avocets flying WAY above him today. Good stuff!! A breeding pair would be WAY cool.

Ekat...fear not ..there's a bald nesting above crystal crag lodge this winter..heard it chirping a week ago .watched him this fall , through binos , perched on a stump tearing a coot apart...the bald was watching us , got nervous , and flew off with the coot....rj

Yes,the one(s) at Hot Creek have been there for multiple seasons. The one that appears to be a big male we've even affectionately named "Melvin". The one down here on the LO we've named "Owen". When deciding where to to fish we've been saying "well, should we hang with Melvin or Owen today?"

Yes...We are dorks. ;-)

There's a bunch of new moderates that are really excellent - the highlight being "Sub-Atomic"on Gecko Wall - a full-on 35-meter 5.10c that will test your range of skills.

Nice one, Frumy. Was up there last weekend for a hit-and-run trip, but we made it down into the Gorge with MisterE and the Maid. Actually, we had a spectacular irrigation valve bust during that super freeze. Fortunately, the landlord pulled us a solid and fixed the leak for now. Massive ice on the front lawn! Donini, been in Bishop for 35 years now. Next time you're in town, you know where I live, I'll take you out for sushi - when it's free and 300 miles from the ocean, why complain?

There's at least six Mexican restaurants in Bishop. Two of them are right next door to each other! Neither are my favorite. I'm sticking with the family that started with a taco cart out along Main Street many years ago. Great family, good food, generous portions.

My favorite computer science student at Bishop High Sçhool (I retired in 1998), Aaron Schat, son of Erick (Schat's Bakkery), is reopening the recently closed Whiskey Creek restaurant and I'm looking forward to the revival of the 5 to 6 o'clock discounted dinners at the bar. Haven't verified the revival, but I'll certainly lean on Aaron.

We also have the choice of Thai, Chinese, and Italian (owners aren't Italian - food is good).

So come on out!

The new owner is Aaron Schat, one of my computer science students from Bishop Union High School way back in the mid 90s. He says he wants to bring back the "old" Whiskey Creek. Let us prey.

He's also the son of Erick Schat owner of the famous Schat's Bakkery in Bishop known for his Sheepherder's Bread.

If he doesn't reinstate the Happy Hour half-priced dinner menu at the bar he will lose me as a regular customer.

Actually I loved Whiskey Creek even more before it expanded to include the attached Copper Kettle as the restaurant and turned the wonderfully intimate old restaurant into just a bar. Those were the good old days ... when Alan Bartlett was a chef and Rob Dellinger was the manager. You could order prime rib using the code word "climber's cut" and get the largest hunk of beef you'd ever seen! Memories!

I was just up at the Milks today. The road is pretty bad but 4wd and some clearance will get you there. Tried to get up to the Bday Boy parking area and that isn't happening unless you got some M/T tires and a locker. Two, where are those petroglyphs? From the photos and what people have written, I'm assuming it's on the tablelands north of the Happies and Sads, but not sure how far. So, Guyman, when are you leaving that Godforsaken coastal sinkhole and moving to Bishop?

In due time.... by blowing most of a decade, due to being a "serious climber" I didn't really get a job till I was like 28, so I am on the catch-up track with the 401K.... and that godforsaken COASTAL sinkhole contains my house, that goes up and up in value each and every year, especially of late... one of my neighbors just sold for 525....

Pretty sure Guyzo would prefer Kernville over Bishop. Let's just start with the simple fact that Bishop has a sorry excuse for a brewery ;)

Ha ha ahahah Mooch.... don't kid yourself, Bishop is a multi-fun-activity zone.... Kernville on the other hand, has some decent climbing, fab MTB and if I ran rivers...or even liked water sports... great kayaking... but the Fishing sucks big time due to the fact that stocked trout is all they have because they will not poison the all the trash fish and make the Kern a catch-n-release river so Kernville is pretty much a one-trick pony town....and the BEST BEER IN THE UNIVERSE comes from MY HOME BREWERY. The KR Brewing Co is a really great one though, happy to see them make it, unlike most restaurants in Kernville.

And the Bishop Brewery is pretty sorry... very overpriced food and drink... IMHO.... I like the Casino, hit that place at happy hour... 1/2 price Food and Drink and you can bring that very young climber chick in for drinks too because they don't even check ID's.

I love the place....

I sure do love Bishop. I know that it has changed since I lived there almost 30 years ago, but even then, real estate was pricey. There isn't very much land. Los Angeles owns so much.

It would be great if L.A. sold the SURFACE rights, at least, to a few sections (section = square mile), helping to keep the cost of living in Bishop down.

How hard is it to dirt bag it these days? The last time I came through, quite a while ago. The L.A. DWP had put up signs virtually EVERYWHERE. So there were few places to crash. Back in my day you could toss your sleeping bag virtually anywhere.

I'm asking, because I'll be visiting the area for a good month next year to paraglide. I refuse to pay to sleep.

the nice Bishop police officer only gave me a warning for accidentally running a red light a couple weeks ago. It was the first of many good omen's for our vacation.

Ate a nice breakfast at Pupfish café. Love the Mountain Rambler.

A pleasant drive out of Bishop. You could make it in a high clearance vehicle,
as long as it is dry. The road, that is.

Did I see your rig in the Whites last August going off Crooked Creek into Cottonwood Basin ?
The road was severely washed out near the bottom.

Yep, that was me. Me and the wife wanted to check out Granite Meadows.
Here's a shot of the road.

I'm slowly picking away at all the trails in the Whites. Including the ones the Forest Service has decided to not maintain. My rigs pretty capable so it's always fun to go on trials that only have moto tire marks on them.

The really bad one I did last year was 35E301. Here's a little trip report I did on T4R.org.

I can see why you stopped.

Did you go past the 4' washout? I wanted to but I stopped because I pulled up to exactly where your rig is in that photo. My wife looked at me like I was stupid or crazy. She was not having any of me trying to get through with her in the rig. I took my finger off the locker switches and parked it. lol
