Hi Fritz,
In have a campsite at the City and will be there from Monday through Friday.
I know a few of the people who are attending your get together.
It would be fun to meet some Supertopo people so I will stop by your camp and say hello.
I will bring a bunch of firewood!

Whole Foods has a decent French Rose for $8.

Very refreshing.

I'll pick up a case next time I'm in Brentwood.

Come on...I'm not a wine snob and I've found acceptable Pinot Noirs and Malbecs in box format. Cheap and east to travel with. Don't touch Cabernets and Merlots any more.

I'm not saying there aren't decent wines in a box, I just never heard of a Chianti in a box. There might be some out there but you might not want to find it. Are you trying to jerk my chain? Let sleeping dogs lie. Lol.

No Wayno, it was an honest question. I haven't heard of a chianti in a box either...thought you might know.

I've found the Black Box wines to be very decent.

edit: now I just need to find boxed fava beans.

If you buy Capri Sun grape juice packets (or the Costco branded ones), and if you leave them in the car, by next summer they will be perfect.

We've survived some long river trips with box wines. I agree that Black Box & Bota Box wines are drinkable and pass the hangover test. (You should not have a hangover after drinking decent wine)

Here's a link to a blind chianti taste test where an almost Chianti Box wine won against some pretty good competition.

Piccini Rosso 3L Box 2010

While not called a Chianti, this box is pretty close with Sangiovese as the primary grape supplemented by the Malvasia Nera and Ciliegiolo grapes.

I normally buy wine for occasions like this at Daveco Liquors in Northglenn. I can mix and match, so i'll find a drinkable Chianti for donini and throw it in one of the cases. No swill allowed!

You guys are killin' me with all this talk of climbing in my favorite place and consumption of my favorite beverage. I have a cellar chock full of some darn good stuff that I'd love to share - maybe next year...

I was just asking Masha about the one dinner I said I would gladly do. She thought the Chicken would be a good one again. I was thinking the Carne Asada, even though it wasn't as I planned. Any thoughts from last years attendees? What I really want to do is get some really good local meat and stuff and go from there. You think those Mormom folk would cut loose with a bunch of nice steaks or something? That is when the red wine really gets tasting good.
