Amazing climbing info that is not recorded anywhere else in the world haphazardly destroyed because someone got into an argument about politics online
Almost got it right. The problem is the administration of this site sucks. These problems have been growing for a number of years and rather than spend some time to deal with the problem, jack sh#t gets done. Now lots of people post rather infrequently or get banned. F*#king lame.

Delete the posts relevant to the banning. Leave the remainder.
Deleting all posts messes up the forum. It's unnecessary.

If you want to pursue that, Big Mike, as a new place for your Squamish content, give him a shout.
Stzzo, it just don't work like that. I can host my own stuff, but i can't import all the squamish talent to my site. It's all here. There is a local board we could use, but it's boring. Nothing much happens there and very few of the Squamish Old School post there.
Sometimes I don't know if RJ really knows what he has here. I mean where else can you have a conversation with John Gill, or Jan Sacherer. Hamish Mutch or Glenn Woodsworth, Jim Donini. Where else did John Bachar post?
I could go on and on. To delete quality climbing material from people like Scott Cosgrove, Hank Caylor, Bruce Kay, in my eyes, is a slap in the face to the people who love this site.
Shame.

but what if some of those guys asked to be deleted? I think Scott and Hank both asked to go.
Personally I don't think people's posts should be deleted, even if they ask for it. But it would be hard to not honor their request.

Mike, I think you might be right about RJ not considering what is here.
Hank just asked to be "deactivated". He was surprised that all his posts disappeared, but doesn't care so much. Its really unfortunate to have such valuable content vanish. Bruce Kay also had some really interesting info that one cannot otherwise find out about, or at least certainly not on the internet.
There needs to be a better process when someone is banned, or deactivated than "delete all".

Scott got banned and Hank asked to leave. (See hankster deleted thread) Niether wanted their content expunged.
Kulun there was a better process before the gilchrist script. How hard would it be to re-intergrate that option??

Mike, I have no idea. I'm sure all kinds of things are possible. Its up to RJ as far as what process he follows. He did bring back Khanom's posts, didn't he? But maybe that was when Khanom was completely reinstated?

Haven't been here much anymore beyond a random lurk, but I am chiming in on this one.
This sh#t needs to stop. You've been asked multiple times to fix this, you claimed you were going to, and you aren't doing it. Nor will you bother to give anyone here an answer because you won't step up and talk to the users.
Hank's sobriety thread is one of the stars on this forum, it's helped a lot of people over the years. His contributions to that thread were important to it, and while the thread remains all his content beyond the thread itself is gone. And none of those posts were subversive or rude or anything else negative.
I have no problem when you delete someone's content that is 99% bullshit and drama, but this really pisses me off. Not that you care (or will even bother to read this) but this is a f*#king joke. Edit to add, when you delete good content and leave people like "The Chief" and "Sidmo" unscathed it makes me pretty certain that you don't even bother to READ the damned forum. You don't get involved unless X number of people bitch about something.
The fact of the matter is that nothing is going to change here as long as the guidebooks keep selling and you keep getting money for your ad farms. The general feeling I get is that you could give a rat's ass less about the forums or climbing community, so why keep doing it.
