I have a lot of lights. But recently, I've enjoyed photographing, as I actually see it.

Sierra - I love cephalopods!

I'm heading out for sharks in a few weeks but here's a little guy (nudibranch) from yesterday...5-10 ft vis means no diving with Jorge tonight :(

My Nikon underwater dSLR and all of the lenses, housings and flashes cost more than what I paid the dealer for my brand-new Subaru Forester.

I like going down into the ocean at night. The fish are loud, in places, yelling at each other. If there's a moon, I don't even need a light until around 50 feet (16M). Coming up on a big critter in the dark can send a tingle down the ole spine. But the light, gives you good visibility for a short range but blinds you to what's happening on the peripehery.

Here's one from the Maldives. A ridge, with a ferocious current going across it. A shark was circling waiting to get into the bait ball.

We're back from a season in Nz but take a look at this mutha of all storm, Cyclone Pam, headed south and anticipated to skirt to the east and just "nip" NZ.

With a 932 Mb center this is the most powerful storm to cruise through these waters in over 30 years. Category 5 with 320 km winds.............

Fortunately it appears it will slide between Vanuatu, New Caledonia to the West and Fiji to the East.

Alas one scary mutha indeed!

I've been in Africa for the last month mostly diving. I've got a lot of photos to post but internet here sucks where I've been (even if it exists). Anyhow not from the ocean but from today watching a Cheetah take down some breakfast the feed it to the cubs...Will post many more when we get home

I stopped watching after Slater lost to Fanning. That is unbelievable. But it's OK. I have Slater, Fanning, and Julian Wilson on my fantasy surfer team.

Gunkie - you were very close to losing a member of your fantasy surf team. Fanning got attacked by a great white but came out with not a scratch (just a bitten in half leash).

and HUGE props to Wilson to go over and try and do whatever he could to help.

Respect.
