Thanks for posting these. I am struggling to find my copy of Mtn Gazette #96, which contains many of the images and which has the excellent dirtbag article (which centers, of course, on Fred).

Thanks! I remember back in 1963 that Layton Kor was already telling me, "If you think I've climbed a lot, you should meet this guy named Fred Beckey".

Fred Becky is an inspiration to all of US, a true Master of the stone, and Ice and the ladies...so I hear.

Fred was old when I was young! How can that be???
A national treasure. Always reminds me of Paul Erdös, the world's most famous mathematician of recent times. He wandered all over the planet with his possessions in a shopping bag, staying at the homes of faculty members of the universities he visited. But he didn't make it past age 83. Fred must be 110 by now.

Fred stayed with me decades ago. When he was leaving I happened to mention a party in Vegas a week hence. Earlier I had made an offhand comment about it being easy to get laid in Vegas.
Day of the party my friend said Fred showed up 3 hours early.
