I suffered ridicule, the jest from many and at least one . . . should have taken heed instead of making fun.
I have used a forty year old harness since day 101. A tie on swami and leg loop set up. I have two others (at least) sport climbing models from JRat and Metolious, but they are pale cousins in comparison.
The waist belt ,the swami is black seat belt webbing from way back that has been folded and sown just the right way so that it has lasted... No fraying, Not Fuzzy at all . . . it came with Forrest's lifetime guarantee !
The tie in points are large loops that you can tie into. You can not miss the tie in loops there is No buckle. The matching leg loops I do also have, but swing them out, trade and replace the leg loops for other makes, other sets. The backs that get sat on at belays, the back part of the leg loop where it rubs against Rock under the pressure of a climbers weight is what wears out if that rubing fuzzyness is something to worry about .
When I tie in, I do so twice.
Once With webbing in a loop through the the swami's ends, around the leg loops, creating a rise, this is secured with a re-traced water knot. Then a second time with the rope, down through one side and back up through the other
capturing the leg loop strap ending in a stout, clove'd, bowline.
When I'm finished I have a free belay loop and a redundant tie in point
that was the point right ?

redundatnt systems are actually a good thing
I myself agree most of the time usually, including the English language as an example since communication can be degraded badly in a noisy environment even if that environment is only the listening audience's brain. Cud we get rid of xtra leters in speling, tho?
Now I need to find me an ATM machine.

Concise superfluous statements from the bully pulpit were not a part of Billy Sunday's preaching. The choir sings "Amen, amen."
You're all gonna die again and again and again if you are Buddhists.
You'll none of you get to heaven.
It can wait.
Forever and ever.
Again and again.
