Personally, I will never understand the reason hunting is so much fun. I tend to like watching animals while they are still alive. What I do love about hunting season is the number of people who either shoot themselves, or shoot their partner.

Yeah I know, I misspelled SEASON.

Wasn't Seasaon the capital of a southeast asian country?

I promise you, there is nobody who can help me.

Why is it exactly you have a problem with people shooting animals for no real reason versus shooting themselves and each other. That attitude seems pretty arrogant. Has it ever passed your thoughts that maybe humans are not quite as special as we seem to think we are?

You could ask Dick Cheney, he apparently has a dim view of lawyers. Are they in season?

Do you know that the culprit was actually there hunting for no reason?

You don't.

There is no reason to assume, as the police and coroner know, that the incident was accidental until there has been an official autopsy/investigation.

You've jumped the gun, Mother Superior.

Nope, I didn't jump to anything. My point is simply that I don't understand why it seems so important to kill critters that are just wandering around for no good reason.

Hunters somehow seem to always either be shooting themselves, or accidentally shooting their partners. I find a lot of irony in that.

There was a classic a few years ago. Some idiot set up one of those Deer Blinds in a tree. It collapsed, he fell 20 feet to the ground, lay there for a day, and bear came by and tore the sh#t out of him. He lived, bearly (he he he he).

Then thanks for explaining that.

One is entitled to one's opinion on anything.

We do agree to an extent on lawyers: some lawyers "deserve" to have bounties placed on them, but they are "officers of the court," remember, so that won't fly.

Naw, no pies. They appear to have a penchant for bullets.

I'd say DUCK, but then you are guaranteed to get shot.

Are you vegan?

That's a definite no! Yes I'm well aware of where "meat" comes from.

Yes, I have heard tales of roadside hunters. Pathetic.

Another classic happened about ten years ago. Some hunter d#@&%e bag is pulling his loaded shotgun out of the back of his station wagon barrel first. The trigger caught on something and he blew his head off.

He won't make that mistake again.

Yup, what's the lesson here.

PAY ATTENTION.

Again, nobody seems to want answer my question why we as humans are so much more important than the nature that surrounds us?

Some idiot is driving too fast, spilling coffee in his lap, and loses it and takes out somebody else. This is a tragedy. But blowing Bambi into a million pieces is hunky dory.

There is a serious conflict of interest.

While I'm not anti-hunting, I have often been anti-hunter. There are a lot of really dumb armed people stumbling around our mountains right now.

Here are a couple of recent examples of these idiots at work.

http://missoulian.com/news/state-and-regional/hunters-cited-after-dozens-shot-into-herd-of-elk/article_5a13ddbe-37bd-5ea1-bc04-3028b3c6e5dc.html

I can't help but laugh when people claim that hunters are the best conservationists. No doubt some hunters care very much about the ecosystem and respect their prey. But most of them couldn't care less about an intact ecosystem and have no respect for the animals. Far too many hunters care more about their fragile egos than anything else.

I should probably add that I almost got shot by a hunter at work last week. The bullet came close enough I could hear it slicing through the air. So my bias is pretty strong right now. This is third close call I've had in the last 15 years.

I used to be a hunter. Then I started carrying a spotting scope instead of a rifle. Since then I have exchanged the spotting scope for a camera. Now I get to stalk and shoot the same animal over and over. The best part is the animal feels no pain and I get the challenge and joy of stalking my prey.

This thread has wonderful potential.

Perhaps something of an offset to the dozens of already existing GunNutz threads...or even more directly, the 'Quail Hunting Appreciation' thread...
