Recently went out and did some ice climbing / photography'ing on Matanuska Glacier here in Alaska. I really enjoyed the photography on this trip especially with my new camera and lens! So here's a bunch of pictures from the trip. I was on a serious black and white kick during the editing...

The glacier is a short trip from the parking lot. Only 1/4 mile hike gets you to its face.

Which is a pretty easy walk.

But before you know it...you're in the good stuff!

Sights on the way in.

A picnic table way out here? Yup.

I was doing a bit of guiding so we lowered into a crevasse for his first ice climb and photography.

Not a bad place to learn!

There were others out as well.

These guys were looking over the edge of the highest point we could see. I couldn't pass up the opportunity and tried my best to talk them into climbing the steep face for our photographing enjoyment.

Success!

That looks steep.

Lots of shapes.

And lots of climbers.

And absolutely beautiful days.

The photos were snapped by the hundreds as the light played into our dreams.

This is unedited...we couldn't have asked for better light!

Oh the black and whites!

Not sure i'd climb that if I were you...

Seriously.

After two days of climbing and pictures we finally made our way back down for the last rays of light.

Thanks for looking!

Very clean photography of a surrealscape - TFPU. Here in Cali we don't get to see much AI...but I've never seen such surfaces, such textures nor ice forms like these...at all.

Prez,

Great photos. Makes me want to go there even more. 1/4 mile approach sounds too good to be true.

Your pictures also reminded me of this artists work. They're not photos.

Goatboy I got the Canon 5dmkIII and the 24-105mm 4/5.6 lens.

Now I want to get a wider lens to get some good aurora shots this winter!

Ezra - Thanks!

Moose - I took a good slip before throwing my crampons on. You're wife definitely has me beat!~

Thanks John and Survival!

goatboy - I upgraded from the 7d and oh man this camera is awesome. I really liked the 7d but I feel like this is worth the step up cost. I got it for a great deal too. Bought it off Ebay and got the camera and lens for $2550. Keep an eye on those deals. The versatility of it is really great. Every photo in the gallery was the same lens. I really works great for all kinds of stuff.
