Planet Granite To Match Up To $20,000 For Donations To ASCA
PG Celebrates 20 Years Supporting Safe Climbing
October 15, 2014 – San Francisco, California: Planet Granite, the West Coast’s
leading climbing gym, today announced plans to match up to $20,000 in donations
made to the American Safe Climbing Association (ASCA) during the months of October
and November. Since it’s founding in 1994, Planet Granite has supported this non-profit,
dedicated to replacing unsafe anchors and reducing the environmental impacts of
climbing, through its community donation program PG Gives Back. In the last five years
Planet Granite has helped raise more than $140,000 for the ASCA through direct
donations and matching fundraisers.
“Planet Granite has been instrumental in supporting the ASCA donating over half
of our entire income in the last few years. This benefits climbers nationwide by
helping maintain safe climbing anchors,” says Greg Barnes, Director of the
ASCA. “Bolts definitely break and this helps save lives.”
Since 1998 the ASCA has replaced more than 12,000 bolts nationwide. In 2013, an
army of volunteer rebolters worked in 19 states and two countries, including Thailand
and Mexico. This year, the ASCA has supplied almost 1600 bolts to crags in California
and Oregon, the two states where Planet Granite members reside.
While Planet Granite plans on matching donations that come in from across the nation,
it is also hosting two local events to benefit the ASCA. Planet Granite San Francisco will
program something for late November. Meantime, Planet Granite Portland will be selling
raffle tickets at its Grand Opening wherein all proceeds from the weekend benefit the
ASCA. More information on donating to the ASCA can be found here.

Cool. Last time I visited the forum (to check for new updates in the cat thread :p), I happened to see the related thread:The ASCA needs your help! . I just got the notification this morning that ASCA has been approved on our corporation's EasyMatch program. So, I hope my donation will be quadrupled with the company's match followed by Planet Granite's match. Hope more people make use of these matches. My passion has shifted from outdoor climbing to something else, but I as always applaud the good work that ASCA and countless climbers do to make climbing safer. Thank you!
P.S. To Moose below, I made the donation via this page: http://www.safeclimbing.org/help.htm

For Bay Area folks, Planet Granite in San Francisco is hosting a big ASCA fundraiser on November 19th with Alex Honnold! Huge thanks to Alex for presenting a second time!
We're getting lists of prizes/auction items together, and we'll start posting pics of some items as we get them in.
Fixe already sent a sweet 80m 9.4 rope, Aliens, & quickdraws!
Here's some books for the event, donated yesterday by Jason Haas of Fixed Pin publishing, including 3 of the Anderson brothers' excellent training guides…and a couple exotic getaway guides to escape the endless rain-drenched winter that California so desperately needs (and probably won't get - again):

It is really easy to make a cash donation too!
So if you donate 50 dollars it is really 100 because of Planet Granite's generosity.
Thanks to everyone who donates their time to the ASCA too!
