Rust: I'd consider myself a realist, alright? But in philosophical terms I'm what's called a pessimist.
Marty: Okay, what's that mean?
Rust: It means I'm bad at parties.
Marty: Let me tell you, you ain't great outside of parties either.

A realist is always a pessimist because he knows the ultimate true nature of the material world.

But a realist is always 100% positive about reality itself ........

Of course a pessimist lives longer- those who understand how terrible the world is are tortured by staying around longer to suffer in it ;)

The lead author of the study said:

"Pessimism about the future may encourage people to live more carefully, taking health and safety precautions."

Part of what he meant to say is that older people ( the subjects of the study) who chart their own way in life, and who often refuse to listen to a lot of bullshit and brainwashing from the medical establishment, politicians, and the pop media world ---tend to make better decisions as regards their life in general, and therefore live longer.

In the politically correct media-driven social order we live in---- self-reliance and independence is looked upon as "pessimism". The forces that are telling you how to think and how to live your life derive their power and justification by keeping you dependent upon them and their view of the world.
Part of what this study is saying is that by charting your own course and listening to your own common sense you just might be healthier in the long run.

I've considered becoming a pessimist but I doubt it would work out.

It's a shame we live in this kind of world in the first place - one that induces in its lifeforms pessimism at all.
