The mentality of ST depends on the comments and thread you choose to take seriously. While posting under my own name provides some incentive for posting discipline, the more important strategy remains to ignore posts lacking substance.

One other rule: I always read DMT's posts. They're always worth it; either for substance or humor.

I've heard of a thing called conversational micro inequities.
Little comments that, on the face of it should be able to be brushed aside... But when heard often enough have an impact on the psychy of the listener.

I know nobody is talking here, words on a screen and all, but it amounts to the same in some sense.

It's not bullying when nobody gives a sh#t about what you do/say and they say so.

Oh brother, where art thou?

I wish some day that there would be more options available to the minds that simply choose to react.

Stop, think, decide to act.

To act, is to create a new situation with potential for good.

To react, merely perpetuates the dullness of error.

Feeling pretty bullied by what Jebus just said. He is intimidating me with his superior powers into leaving my butt hurt feelings behind & doing something cool today when all I really wanted to do was lay around and complain about the rain.

I'm pretty darn certain that every person that posts on ST is craving attention, sometimes it's hard to get attention from posting something decent and kind. . . so post something mean and you get a response, which makes you feel cool for 1/1000th of a second, then you feel bad for being a dick, then you feel lonely, then you feel inadequate as a human, then you post another mean response. . .

the cycle shall continue until our medication kicks in. . .

If even the most innoccuous topics didn't constantly devolve into a "STFU!" "No, YOU STFU!" tirade then I would tend to agree. But, very little on here should be taken seriously. (Werner has been correct all along...)

The bullshit's driving off people like Walling....

I'm guessing the decades of JT deli C4.parking lot base o' the crag, cafeteria, trade show slanderfests have inured Master Walling to all known forms of the "Bullsh#t." loss of interest or lack of relevance perhaps..."driven off."...never.

Edit: Forgot Captain of Industry...what outdoor retail niche sport tycoon has time for this shiet?

I think most of us could do a heck of a lot better job treating others kinder. If I've pissed any one off, please accept my apology right here.

For instance, I could say that right now, a large portion of the Eldorado NF is burning , due to the fact it fell decadent and over stocked by NON treatment. And that its torching right now in an un-natural way due to those conditions. And that is 100% truth. BUT to those so opposed to "logging" it will be considered inflammatory and then abused, condemned and insulted.

the tone Ron.. the tone. you left out the derision and Cali hate in the above statement.

no.. that isn't what I said at all.

you have a long history here of being derisive towards all things Californian. What you fail to understand is that when you speak derisively, that is mostly what you will get in return. Like Avery, you blame others for the hatred, when you should mostly be looking in the mirror.

If someone like Roger Breedlove made the statement you made above, he could likely get reasoned responses. Like anything on the internet, he would also get some of the nastier comments, but he would get reasoned responses, and that is because he has a history of behaving respectfully and reasonably. . But you have a long history of being derogatory and it doesn't just go away because once or twice you speak reasonably. I have seen you try once or twice to start a reasonable conversation, but mostly you fail because of your history. Yet you blame everyone else and quickly go back to your old behavior.

You want a climbing forum with good content and a community atmosphere? Stop being a dick.

I'll agree with this 100% The op was never meant to condone the trolls actions. It was simply a reminder that other's words are only as powerful as you allow them to be.

I don't condone jebus's actions at all and do find that to be a dick move. Among many others here, but i have had many deteractors in real life as well and find they are much easily ignored online..

Hmmm so im told to just go hunting for the joy of it and not post an "inflammatory" thread about it.??

Nobody is saying to not post a thread of your choice...

Just know that when the post appears on the front page, any with access to the site can weigh in on the subject matter, no matter how close you think you are with your friends here on the topo forum/climbing areas.

Much like the religious threads, I put hunting in the same boat... We have grocery stores, and though the right would like me to believe that the world is coming to an end, I don't think I will have to learn hunting anytime soon... But... What's it doing here?

Not everyone is in your camp with regards to what is cool and what is 80% show, 18% practice 2% sustenance... 100% ego/base instinct sh#t.

In essence what was said that its only ok to post whatever subjects one agrees with??

no, when I see yourt foolish hunting threads, I skip past them to post on more interesting threads.... but... you have to know that there are people who feel pretty convinced that hunting is a bad thing, especially when we have so many videos available showing hunting gone stupid.

Well many here are hunters and like those threads , so what about their rights to this internet.

They have every right... they get none of the special favors and are subject to 100 of the freedoms available to the original poster... including the posts that say things that you don't agree with or hurt your feelings or whatever they do to you.

I don't post those to be inflammatory - that perception is strictly in the respondents eye. NOT MINE.

Of course not... But again... you have to know that others don't share your want/need to show all that they have killed this weekend...

I posted about CA Irony because of the poor management of mtn lions,

If so, you did it without thinking about what you were writing... I'm a dumb ass non-hunter and I was able to see some flaws in your thoughts, as they were written.

NOT to inflame and seek the attacks that come, that too is in the eye of the beholder. It wasn't a troll.

From a person that I have previously read to be 100 republican and deadset against all forms of government... posting a thread calling government programs ass backwards, or the actions of a single agency were against the law when they weren't.

I can understand you having a misunderstanding seeing how everything gubment does is bad, but you beat a dead horse to death and then some...

There are those here that continue to attack shorty after any posts by those they seem to hate. That is their problem, not min, not yours or anyone else.

begging the question: Why the statement?

I AM a hunter, shooter, fisherman, taxidermist, retailer, climber, former forestry tech and LEO.

Oh, sh#t..... I did not know that.... well f*#k, let me turn my respect knob to 11!

I only read one thing on that list is useful or pertains to the subject matter here on the climbing forum.... the rest, you have to understand other are not and may not want to ever have to deal with another human being who does those things... Granted, they don't have to look... but then again aren't their specialty sites just for your types?

Or do you think of the ST Forum as the Walmart of discussion?

P.S. Sorry if this seems thrown together.... my computer is dying and I need a new one... overheating

I'm on lunch, my excuse.

I'm pretty sure Ron is just being himself. Not really aware when what he says in inflammatory. That's part of what makes him so entertaining.

Ron & DMT exchanging posts is like shaking a soda. LOL
