What happened to the thread?

Too much bullying?

How are we to have a discussion on bullying now that the original posts about bullying have been pulled? I feel bullied!

Should I start a new thread about bully bullying?

Let the creativity flow and ignore the crap.

Bullies die in their own filth. They spread unhappiness until it finally consumes them.

No one has taken more crap than Ron Anderson - therefore he is obviously a true artist.

Pulling your good content only denies it to the good people who deserve it and validates the azzholes.

"Those bad bad bullies. They're just evil, not good like me!"

So Smartypants, what do you think is the evolutionary basis of bullying. Or do think it doesn't have anything to do with evolution or our evolutionary past, instead it's about Satan, Original Sin and the Fall, and our God-given Free Will to do good or evil. I'm all ears.

I'm trying to picture someone 6'-5" being bullied. I know, I know...

Throughout grade school I was the second biggest kid in school. The biggest
would go on to get a football scholarship at Ohio St. He was the nicest kid
in the whole school. I like to think I was second nicest, but I know better.
Between the two of us the bullies had no chance.

I get the intent of the OP.
I agree, letting go of all negative comments is essential.

However, looking at the response, and commentary stemming from the OP, I'm not sure the message hit its mark...

It almost seems that to have an opinion on something is to invite the ridicule from others... Its in mans nature... We can watch the monkeys to get to the bottom of why, but so far we, as a species, have not grown out of this phase of evolution.

When confronted with negative comments, I start with does the comment add anything other than humor to the discussion? If yes then address it as legit.
If no, move on, end of discussion .

ST rarely rises above the mentality of a 5th grade playground, so it helps to think along those lines before saying anything. Think of it this way:

"Yes, I know I peed my pants in front of everyone during the Christmas assembly, but you shouldn't laugh. I have feelings and even though you don't know me---or anything about me---we share the love of four-square. So please don't make fun of me, or I'll pop the ball and then go cry to the principal..."

If you don't have a sense of humor about yourself and you continue to post "poor me" BS, then you're basically a sad, masochistic SOB.

I learn to avoid the dicks.

If 'artist' equates with troll, then yeah, I'd have to agree.

Artists are ALL Trolls, in that they fish for reaction. They push our buttons or they leave us cold.

I could not diss a troll, just like what I like and ignore the rest.

A child could do it, but he hasn't learned to do so yet.

His elders won't give him the good example.

ST is more like kindergarten much of the time, not the fifth grade.

And it pains me to say that many of the types here DO NOT DO THEIR HOMEWORK and read the content between the OP and their post. So childish it's pathetic.

The mentality of ST depends on the comments and thread you choose to take seriously. While posting under my own name provides some incentive for posting discipline, the more important strategy remains to ignore posts lacking substance.

One other rule: I always read DMT's posts. They're always worth it; either for substance or humor.

I've heard of a thing called conversational micro inequities.
Little comments that, on the face of it should be able to be brushed aside... But when heard often enough have an impact on the psychy of the listener.

I know nobody is talking here, words on a screen and all, but it amounts to the same in some sense.

It's not bullying when nobody gives a sh#t about what you do/say and they say so.

Oh brother, where art thou?

I wish some day that there would be more options available to the minds that simply choose to react.

Stop, think, decide to act.

To act, is to create a new situation with potential for good.

To react, merely perpetuates the dullness of error.

I'm pretty darn certain that every person that posts on ST is craving attention, sometimes it's hard to get attention from posting something decent and kind. . . so post something mean and you get a response, which makes you feel cool for 1/1000th of a second, then you feel bad for being a dick, then you feel lonely, then you feel inadequate as a human, then you post another mean response. . .

the cycle shall continue until our medication kicks in. . .

And that its torching right now in an un-natural way due to those conditions. And that is 100% truth. no.. that isn't what I said at all.

you have a long history here of being derisive towards all things Californian. What you fail to understand is that when you speak derisively, that is mostly what you will get in return. Like Avery, you blame others for the hatred, when you should mostly be looking in the mirror.

If someone like Roger Breedlove made the statement you made above, he could likely get reasoned responses. Like anything on the internet, he would also get some of the nastier comments, but he would get reasoned responses, and that is because he has a history of behaving respectfully and reasonably. . But you have a long history of being derogatory and it doesn't just go away because once or twice you speak reasonably. I have seen you try once or twice to start a reasonable conversation, but mostly you fail because of your history. Yet you blame everyone else and quickly go back to your old behavior.

Hmmm so im told to just go hunting for the joy of it and not post an "inflammatory" thread about it.??

Nobody is saying to not post a thread of your choice...

Just know that when the post appears on the front page, any with access to the site can weigh in on the subject matter, no matter how close you think you are with your friends here on the topo forum/climbing areas.

Much like the religious threads, I put hunting in the same boat... We have grocery stores, and though the right would like me to believe that the world is coming to an end, I don't think I will have to learn hunting anytime soon... But... What's it doing here?

Not everyone is in your camp with regards to what is cool and what is 80% show, 18% practice 2% sustenance... 100% ego/base instinct sh#t.

In essence what was said that its only ok to post whatever subjects one agrees with??

no, when I see yourt foolish hunting threads, I skip past them to post on more interesting threads.... but... you have to know that there are people who feel pretty convinced that hunting is a bad thing, especially when we have so many videos available showing hunting gone stupid.

Well many here are hunters and like those threads , so what about their rights to this internet.

They have every right... they get none of the special favors and are subject to 100 of the freedoms available to the original poster... including the posts that say things that you don't agree with or hurt your feelings or whatever they do to you.

I don't post those to be inflammatory - that perception is strictly in the respondents eye. NOT MINE.

Of course not... But again... you have to know that others don't share your want/need to show all that they have killed this weekend...

I posted about CA Irony because of the poor management of mtn lions,

If so, you did it without thinking about what you were writing... I'm a dumb ass non-hunter and I was able to see some flaws in your thoughts, as they were written.

NOT to inflame and seek the attacks that come, that too is in the eye of the beholder. It wasn't a troll.

From a person that I have previously read to be 100 republican and deadset against all forms of government... posting a thread calling government programs ass backwards, or the actions of a single agency were against the law when they weren't.

I can understand you having a misunderstanding seeing how everything gubment does is bad, but you beat a dead horse to death and then some...

There are those here that continue to attack shorty after any posts by those they seem to hate. That is their problem, not min, not yours or anyone else.

begging the question: Why the statement?

I AM a hunter, shooter, fisherman, taxidermist, retailer, climber, former forestry tech and LEO.

Oh, sh#t..... I did not know that.... well f*#k, let me turn my respect knob to 11!

I only read one thing on that list is useful or pertains to the subject matter here on the climbing forum.... the rest, you have to understand other are not and may not want to ever have to deal with another human being who does those things... Granted, they don't have to look... but then again aren't their specialty sites just for your types?

Or do you think of the ST Forum as the Walmart of discussion?

P.S. Sorry if this seems thrown together.... my computer is dying and I need a new one... overheating

I am for certain. The relationships i've formed in real life thanks to the taco are simply irreplaceable. I probably never would have met most of the Squamish pioneers were it not for this place, and the cali connections have been awesome.

Not to mention the three or four messages of encouragement every day when i was stuck in a hospital bed. I don't know if i could have kept the positive flame burning trough all the turmoil. Good question!
I am for certain. The relationships i've formed in real life thanks to the taco are simply irreplaceable.

Big Mike nails it! Big! That's exactly how I feel!
New friends I've made directly, and friends of people, I've met here, many of whom have become important people in my life!

Here's an example. Several years ago, Ed Hartouni, Gary Carpenter ( both of whom I first met on the taco and with whom I've shared adventures of all sorts, all over the West since) and I climbed both sides of Gollum on the base of el cap. Ed wrote a tr about it and within hours we had responses from members of the 1973 FA team of the left side. Including Peter Haan, who I've met now several times in person and have become friends with.

None of that would likely have happened without the Taco. And that's just one little group of incidences. I have so many like that, I can't list them without fear of leaving someone out!

Not only that, but there are the people I have reconnected with, sometimes after decades.

Plus, there are certain kinds of questions I can get an answer to faster and more thoroughly here than anywhere. Watch for one soon seeking info about resurrecting files from iPods that take the coffee bath!

Bullying? I have been to a playground. It seemed the bullying begin after some loser bigger than me did not like my use of free speech and began his form of physical realignment on me.

To the best of my knowledge there is no physical realignment going on from what is said on this ST website.

Is the meaning of bullying changing? Politeness goes a long ways but not near as far as being able to laugh and respond in kind to what has been said of you. And of equal merit is the ability to walk away unscathed.

This place is not a tea house nor a bar. Every dumb ass comment whose owner seems to want a response [ a post] would probably be thought wiser if he would evaluate how dumb ass his comment was before crying bullying.

Let's refrain from construing any form of free speech as bullying.

Just think... "What an a$$hole that guy is who said he'd send gangsters after my buddies daughter..."

Is that the same buddy who likes to kill dogs?
Sounds like you have chitty taste in friends if so.

Back from another rough session at the gym. Man how the hell you guys have energy for this stuff??? I'm going to go do prayers in front of my Burch shrine and be one with the trolls of the universe.

For the way more than the most part this place is all words and zero action.

Maybe we all need to learn to read better, or worse.

I'm listening.
Your friend killed a dog then sprayed about it online, then he deleted the post, now years later you bring it up.

Now tell us what made you bring this up and I will show you what a productive conversation looks like.

Otherwise you are the one not being productive and unable of an upfront discussion online. You want to play with the big dogs you need to question and answer all accusations.

I'm here for you man, you got this.

A conversion does not include lol and a snarky comment.

I'll ask again.

Why do you bring up drama that happened years ago?

You want to limit the bullying on this forum
then to prove your point you make a statement that is inherently divisive.

What is your point?
Your buddy killed a dog, I called him out on it and now you're still apparently butthurt enough and holding a grudge years later to bring it up.

I like Mike and enjoy his posts, if I didn't care about what he thought I would be doing something else. I only interact with people on this forum that I respect and could hang with.

Ok Goatboy. The reason i brought it up, was because i was trying to prove to Avery how easy it is to simply ignore conversations not worth having. The fact that you're not willing to atone for your part in the incident tells me it's not a conversation worth having.

I never saw the post about the dog that you are referring to, so i cannot comment on that, but if what you say were true, i would obviously disapprove of those actions as well as your reactions to them.

I am unfamiliar with the word "Climb"... What does it mean???...

I believe it is "drug slang."

As many of us know, the criminal underworld of illicit drug users has corrupted not only their bodies and their minds, but also the proper use of the American language.

"Climb" in their drug-ravaged patois, is equivalent to "get high." And while most God-fearing citizens of the Untied States of America understand that "getting high" means ascending into heaven (and into the arms of the Lord Jesus) after death, it is quite different when used by members of "the drug culture."

For them, "getting high" means consuming illegal drugs and becoming mentally deranged. Thus, when they say "climb," it has nothing to do with ascending a set of stairs, or a step ladder, or being gathered into the arms of Jesus, but rather accepting Satan into their lives.

If you fall into this trap, the outcome is certain...
