Man, how I would love to pull up to the El Cap Bridge in one of those babies!
On my first post-divorce renaissance trip to the Valley in the fall of 1995, my folks had some sort of tax shelter investment with GO Vacations, a place that rented RV's. I think it's gone T.U. since. But if I went at "low season" which was after September 25th or so, I could rent a camper van at ten cents on the dollar, in other words about five bucks a day.
I used to park it in the old Centre of the Universe, the parking lot where the Train Wreck currently resides. [You know, the temporary building that went up after the January 97 flood?]
I remember sitting inside it one night, drinking a beer, and the ranger knocked on the door.
"You guys aren't sleeping in there, are you?"
"Um .... no! We have a campsite over at Camp 4."
After that, we kept the lights off after dark. ;)
