*shirt

I'm writing from over at Sender Films and we're trying to figure out who the original artist was for this incredible t-shirt that was made in the 70s (probably '77 or '78). It's a reference to the 1977 dope plane crash near Yosemite that funded some epic climbing shenanigans.

We're super lucky that *someone* saved their original tee (seen on our lovely model, Nick Rosen), but if you have any info about where the art/design came from, that would be really awesome!

I would guess that shirt was designed by Chris Nakamura, who worked at the gas station in the Valley. He was a very clever and humorous illustrator. He created these funny comic strip characters that poked fun at rangers and climbers alike. He was active around that time.

A little birdy also told us that Kief Hillsbery may have something to do with it also.

Is he still on supertopo/around?
Chris too?

It's actually Chris Nishimura, not Nakamura. I had to think about it for awhile!

I would go ahead and ask Ric. Despite all the kidding and other stuff, Ric does know more about this than any one person.

OK Ric, good enough, do I get that signed (free) copy of the book?

Mike Elsberry sold them out of his Boy's Town tent, which was directly in front of mine. He held kegger after kegger. one work night I had to get some sleep, so I grabbed my sleeping bag and headed out to the meadow. Busted for OB camping at dawn.

Dang TMjesse! When was this? Was it any notoriously heavy handed ranger that nabbed you?

Seems a little excessive when you really do live and work in the Valley and you're just trying to sleep a little.

In fact, it was a "rent-a-cop" from cal state parks that busted me. Not his fault, really. Just doing his "contracted" job. Where's the discretion when someone is sleeping in Stoneman Meadow? For $25, it's an honor!

Monterey County Sheriff's deputies just found a fully-loaded, but abandoned pot-smuggling ship on the Big Sur Coast. Even up there (especially up there?) people are quick to notify the authorities when the deadly drug cartels try to land their cargo.

Before long, El Chapo and Co. will abandon the high seas, and turn to the friendly skies to bring their dirt-weed skank into California.

Sooner or later, a pot plane will crash, and this hat will be for sale:

Saw it on Netflix last night. Pretty darn good. The wife loved "that Roper guy. What a great name for a climber." She's all over Camp Four today.
