Just got back to the Silicon Valley after 6 glorious days staying at the Orient Land Trust Valley View Hot Springs Naturist Resort on the western flank of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. That absolutely perfect naturist (nudist) venue is about 22 miles north of Crestone, Colorado. Of course avid Colorado mountaineers know the Sangre de Cristo range and Crestone, and if they are also truly liberated mountaineers they will know OLT. This was my very first time venturing into Colorado's mountains as I've spent most of my 46 years of mountaineering in the Sierra. I'm blown away by the vastness of Colorado's mountains, and the unspoiled beauty of the San Luis Valley. You could drop the entire Sierra into Colorado and lose it. Hyperbole? Not at all, and this is coming from a guy who's been hopelessly biased towards the Sierra for decades. I used the OLT naturist resort as my base camp to venture up into a few of the canyons of the Sangre de Cristo range to recon some of the Fourteeners for future ascents. The hike out of Crestone into Willow Lake was delicious. Once above the upper falls that drops into the lake I was able to scope out routes on the peaks that ring that basin. Amazing country, Colorado. Wish I had bothered to venture into that state's mountains in my more daring youth. Going back in October to stay at OLT again for a week, and weather permitting I'm going to solo a couple of the Fourteeners. You Colorado mountaineers live in a beautiful state.

Not sure if I'm the first as I ran into a threesome hiking nude. Kindred spirits. But those mountains and that setting in the San Luis Valley..............yummy!!

BTW, a true natural naturist doesn't use Coppertone. Full of toxins! And brown glutes are the objective.

Why son, down here in the San Juans anything larger than a rabbit running around without clothes on is considered big game.
You're right about the vastness of Colorado Mts. the Crestones are a comparatively small range. The San Juans cover 10,000 relatively nudist free sq. miles.

Do they call you Inventioneer because you pioneered the use of an empty cotton Bull Durham pouch to keep yer nutz from sunburn?

Be very watchful and respectful of the weather in October it can change on a whim and has year after year proven to be fateful. Bodies recovered in the next summer......

Not saying your not experienced or not but the weather screams thru Colorado faster than most people give it respect for....September and October in the high peaks always catches someone by surprise....

Having said that Valley View, OLT is for sure a special place that has been tirelessly preserved for generations to come and they continue to acquire lands to preserve.

If the weather doesn't work for you bring your sport climbing garb for Penitente Canyon and do some short but fun routes.......

Like Jim says you've only tapped about 1/10th of what the state has to offer.......
