Don't get too excited about "breakdown" or "collapse" of runners in this race. Ultra distance runs were being held long before the start of the internet and today there is a very full calendar of races all year round in the U.S. and in other countries. Volunteering lets you see each runner up close and personal and can be an inspiring weekend, plus you will make new friends.

Apparently the unsupported FKT on the JMT went down recently too. I think the time wasn't too much longer than Pantilat's, which makes it something of a more impressive record imo.

I can't believe how much these ultras cost. $850??

There was a time when I thought ultras were cool. Not anymore , not after finding out that both Paula Newby Fraiser and Dave Allen have developed nearly identical major immune disorders..If one does a little independent research on the effects of these types of events on the human body I doubht you will remain interested in pursuing them. I know a gal who won the western states 100. She had her hips replaced before she reached 50.. All the latest research regarding marathoning, ultras, tri-athalons is coming back very negative..not only for joints but especially for the heart..no to mention the kidneys and the liver as well...burn up a knee joint just say I have done an Ultra? Give your self heart damage doing an ultra? Not me baby. Check out Dr Mercolas website..integrus research on any subject regarding human physiology and more...

Congrats on an epic loop.
As you said,
http://www.ultralive.net/tahoe200/webcast.php
now shows 60 finishers and 30 drops (under 100 hours).
It also shows 200 registered, 7 did not start.
So that leaves 103 "MIA".
Presumably some of these hit the 100 hour cutoff and maybe finished
unofficially. Or maybe dropped without confirmation.
