Now the REAL season starts up. The real pre-season, that is.

I can't wait for

1. The Kid's traditional OP

2. To congratulate Ray Guy, one of The Kid's All-Time Raiders

Number Nine of The Flames congratulates Number Eight of the Oakland Raiders and the LA Raiders.

There is also a trial run on a newfangled two-point conversion rules change.

zBra, please explain to us nitwits.

I blame this outburst on my reading a collection of Ring Lardner's work.

I would appreciate The Kid's OP on the 'Traditional' Question when he's 'ready' and don't mean this to usurp or 'pirate' his prerogative.

I'm really looking forward to Sunday afternoon 'Niners at home games completely bollixing my drive back from the Sierras. Sunday PM return already takes an hour longer than any other time.

They built the bleeding stadium right in the triangle of Interstate 880, US 101 and Cal 237. The three main Silicon Valley arteries. At least I can come home via the San Mateo bridge and skip 880/101/237 entirely.
AND it's right next door to Great America amusement park.
Sure there's public transit.
sort of.
Like all the families with kids are going to take a santa clara county transit bus to the light rail to Great America with all their stuff?
Without traffic it takes more than an hour to get from Los Gatos to Great America by bus. Takes a half hour by shuttle bus, then an hour and a half by Light Rail (aka rapid transit). 2 hours from Los Gatos by public transit? Not gonna happen. I've got a friend who lives near the stadium. I don't take public transit.

East Bay fans will take Amtrak to the Tasman station next to the park? Not likely. How will they get to Amtrak (BART doesn't even get close at Berkeley) and where will they park?

Conveniently, BART will get within about 2 miles of the stadium.....in another few years.

Like the Niners Faithful are going to stop having tailgate parties?
Santa Clara County Light Rail will stop at the stadium. Have you ever ridden the Light Rail at rush hour? Now consider thousands heading for the same station. Good luck.

Perhaps the parking prices will push fans towards public transit.
Stubhub has 112 parking passes left for the Aug 17 Broncos game for $51 (plus surcharges)
When you consider public transit and traffic patterns, the Giants stadium in SF is ideally situated.
Levis stadium?
We'll see. Perhaps the Niner fans are willing and smart enough to endure public transit en masse.
Not likely.

Yeah, I'm ready for the Niners season at home.
I'll come back from the mountains either LATE Sunday night or Monday AM.
I'll completely avoid Silly Valley on home games afternoons.
I'm lucky, NFL? I can take it or leave it. Except for the 35th annual SuperBowl party at my friend's place.
Super Bowl L at Levis stadium? I'll be sure to be away skiing or ice climbing. And I ain't coming home till Monday morning.

At least it will be better than Candlestick for fan fun and for traffic.

So the NFL is now experimenting with accelerometers and transducers in players' helmets so they can "measure" (monitor?) players' speed and distance etc. For a "better viewing experience". We can see the replays in all their zig-zag glory instead of the TV commentators' light pen scribbles. Actually a pretty clever idea.
Yet no mention of using the accelerometers to monitor helmet concussive forces. Something that really matters.
How about accelerometers in Football (soccer) player's jock straps? since they don't wear helmets.

Bring it on!

Let's see if Peyton Manning and his troops can atone for last season's SB debacle.

Go Broncos!

Eagles lost last night to the Partiots.^^^

Sanchez had interceptions in the game.

I was there to drink beer, not watch that game.

Then they said the bar's feed for the Raiders' game was blacked out.

So I caught this and share it. Derek Carr showed his good arm off and they came back against the Lions.

Looking forward to recording games I am interested in and watching in the evenings. No football in the afternoons of my two days off. Can watch a game in about 45 minutes if you hustle. The crux is not seeing or hearing the score before hand.
