hey there say, well... another year, i have...

SOMEONE is missing, on my birthday, this year... my dad...
as thankful as i am for the goods of life, this obvious thought, made me sad...

this is the FIRST time on my birthday that i did not get a birthday card from my daddy, he always wrote them and loved doing this...
my mom, knew that, you see, and added 'from daddy too', just for me, as if 'kiss'...

ever since i knew i was grown-up and one my own...
with little ones, to nuture to 'become grown'...

i made sure in all the ways that i knew...
to my daddy and mom, be true...

to do my best, to test all roads, to treat folks right...
and to share love and care, and keep honest goals, in sight...

i may not have been the one to do that college or make big bucks...
but to make daddy assured, and content, and mom grateful for extra lucks...

was in my heart, and thus, we fly from the nest...
and well, you all know the rest...

WE become who we are...
and we all from our journey--keep part of them, near, not far...

WELL:
so, now... well, again... i am thinking on TWO poems that i read
last night, and kept them for my new birthday year, to share here, since i really miss my daddy's card, his voice, and any bits of time that i could grab... though living far away, twas hard to get it... AND now it's gone...

HERE ARE THE POEMS... they seem to match what my folks taught me
to do (or think about)--and these, for my daddy, and mom, match how i keep me heading 'right on the target' that hoped i'd aim for:
just to be a person they could be thankful and grateful for, having had as their child... and you know, goals like what they wanted, keep one from
having a heavy heart, as one gets OLD... and--it's coming, as it does, for us ol' humans... :)

so--FOUND THIS BOOK 'BY CHANCE' IN A THRIFT STORE:
THESE ARE BY EDGAR A. GUEST:
(ALSO, just now, found it on line, in case it is not allowed to type the material to share, WITHOUT a link, for credit?)

Edgar A. Guest Poems
My Creed

To live as gently as I can;
To be, no matter where, a man;
To take what comes of good or ill
And cling to faith and honor still;
To do my best, and let that stand
The record of my brain and hand;
And then, should failure come to me,
Still work and hope for victory.

To have no secret place wherein
I stoop unseen to shame or sin;
To be the same when I'm alone
As when my every deed is known
To live undaunted, unafraid
Of any step that I have made;
To be without pretense or sham
Exactly what men think I am.

To leave some simple mark behind
To keep my having lived in mind,
If enmity to aught I show,
To be an honest, generous foe,
To play my little part, nor whine
That greater honors are not mine.
This, I believe, is all I need
For my philosophy and creed.

AND HERE IS THE SECOND--GOOD FOR STUDY:

Title: When You Know A Fellow
Author: Edgar A. Guest [More Titles by Guest]

When you get to know a fellow, know his joys
and know his cares,
When you've come to understand him and the
burdens that he bears,
When you've learned the fight he's making and
the troubles in his way,
Then you find that he is different than you
thought him yesterday.
You find his faults are trivial and there's not so
much to blame
In the brother that you jeered at when you only
knew his name.

You are quick to see the blemish in the distant
neighbor's style,
You can point to all his errors and may sneer
at him the while,
And your prejudices fatten and your hates
more violent grow
As you talk about the failures of the man you
do not know,
But when drawn a little closer, and your hands
and shoulders touch,
You find the traits you hated really don't
amount to much.

When you get to know a fellow, know his every
mood and whim,
You begin to find the texture of the splendid
side of him;
You begin to understand him, and you cease to
scoff and sneer,
For with understanding always prejudices disappear.
You begin to find his virtues and his faults you
cease to tell,
For you seldom hate a fellow when you know
him very well.

When next you start in sneering and your
phrases turn to blame,
Know more of him you censure than his business
and his name;
For it's likely that acquaintance would your
prejudice dispel
And you'd really come to like him if you
knew him very well.
When you get to know a fellow and you understand
his ways,
Then his faults won't really matter, for you'll
find a lot to praise.

WELL...

i hope these poems can make something in your DAILY GRIND, whether at work, at home, at a climb, or just going to the store, a bit more smooth
and content, and keep a smile in your heart, as to who you are--and what your goals, are, too...

did not get a card, given and signed by daddy... but, with love, i got one from mommy... and i reckon this can be MY card to my daddy...
signed:

wish you were here...
and letting you know, in many ways, parts of you ARE...
thank you for my birthday, daddy... always trying to 'not mess it up'...

Last year's celebration was a big, big deal. Three days, it was.

Starting early,
but you have good reason, with your daddy departed;
so we can just wait, gal, to get this year started.

I liked your poem best. :0)

hey there say, mouse, Charlie C, clinker and norwegian...

thank you so much!!! very special words to cherish for my day now...

my friend, here, a good neighbor from the old place, took me for breakfast and i got to enjoy her 'helping as well' at her son's restaurant...
and now, am getting ready to share my day with my ex-boss-lady...

she never has company for her birthday, so i am sharing mine, today,
with her... cooked a duck, last night and made creampuffs and a
bit of pumpernicle bread and some squash, :)

got to clean up and get ready for her to come over...
wow, she is 90, and i am but 61...
wow, i have a LOT to learn, :)

happy taco-day and god bless, to all...
thank you again, for the words and the olive-leaves in magnolia,
and ALL the special 'phrases of kind words'...

will see the taco-turn, later this eve... :)

Happy birthday, neebee! I hope today is one of joy, and that your coming year brings you great happiness.

My dad died a couple of weeks before my birthday in 1977, and I remember feeling the hole in my heart. I wish you the greatest of comfort. I'm sure he was proud of you, Mark, and your family generally; he had every reason to be so.

hey there say, ... thank you thank you thank you...

every single one of you... so many names to add here...

i felt like i got a hug from heaven, today, as, i had a meal with
my ex boss lady, and i got to share about my dad...

those last dying 'how it was for him...
and she shared about her beloved husband, the same way...

and--we both went out, after, to do and be, part of the world around us...
seems we both have a knack for finding the OLD and discarded things of
thrift stores, and thus:
giving them new life... :)

hope we also, do that, by being who we are, as well, :)
and by the messages here, from you friends of mine,
i CAN SEE:

yes, and i can say, "wow, daddy, i'm doing good" ...

will post of pic of our supper table, later... :)
got to clean up and around, and check my email, too...
and get busy, and wow, had a great birthday!!!!
