Ultra-light is a regular spin-casting setup with a five foot rod and five or less lb. test mono-filament. A float tube is an innertube thing with a seat. You wear waders and fins and you kick around. I just tie on a fly and let out a bunch of line and slowly kick around. Slow trolling. Give the line a little pull now and then to give it some action and just wait. I have caught trout up to ten pounds this way at Grimes lake. I make spinners of several different sizes and colors and weight, depending on the water and the light and the temp. On the bigger rivers I use a six foot rod and for Steelhead I sometimes even use a seven footer. I like to use as light a line as possible.

Where are you fishing and what kind of gear do you have?

Kayak fishing is similar to float tubing.

The fishing here locally in Seattle pretty well sucks, but I have been known to toss lures during pink or silver salmon runs. Mukilteo and Browns Point near Tacoma for elbow to elbow urban fishing. I've caught a few here and there but not recently. Too crowded for me.

The river at Index is one fork of the Skykomish. The "Sky" can be good at times but you will have to spend some time and get to know the river. Icicle creek at Leavy can be good for small trout. Lenice and Merry Lakes are a few miles south of Vantage and are special regulations but big trout.
