Cheers y'all from across the pond, feeling very welcome here.

Problem is if you look at all these shots you US gals are all able to wear really photogenic little strappy tops to show off your great physique making for great photos. Over here the weather is invariably so cold that we are all wrapped up to the chin with fleece and that don't make for quite such good shots. I find myself having to wear really bright fleeces to make sure I can actually be recognised as a GIRL on the crag.

And how come you all hardly ever seem to wear helmets - is that a girl revolt against "bad hair"?

Looking forward to Swiss alps - not long now - leaving on Sunday - checking gear tomorrow - apparently snow low down already which may skew our plans - oh well the great British facination with the weather goes on.

cheers all

700 pixels wide is about as high as you can view without scrolling @ 1024 X 768 resolution.
And since many publc-access computers are running 800 X 600, 600 pixels wide is better, IMKSHO.

Scrolling sucks!

I (almost) always wear a helmet when leading... if I'm just cragging it and following something where I know I'm not going to be leading any pitches, I'll usually leave it behind.

I always wear one in the winter! Flower stickers on it seem to do the trick as far as making sure everyone knows I'm a gir.

I'm not sure if Valerie or anyone has posted anything about her mom, Ruth D. Mendenhall on the Taco, but Valerie created a cool book about her mom. Some have said that this book should be required reading in every Women's Studies class or program:

I got this from the internet; no doubt, Valerie or her sister, Vivian, have more pix of Ruth, tho she certainly never dressed in the "hot" outfits of the "modern" women climbers.

Bev Johnson and Sybille Hechtel are remembered for the first all-woman ascent of El Cap. But few remember the first all-woman ascent of Monday Morning Slab in 1965 or '66. It was led by Wanda Loe who worked in the Lodge Coffee Shop before it got "upgraded." Her partner's name was Diane (?) who also worked there as hostess, I believe. Wanda was always generous to climbers on the sizes of portions (high shovel-factor!) of whatever they ordered. Lovely gals, both of them. They really rocked! Wish I had a pic of them.
