Three Sherpanis on an all women's team have summited K2. One of them is from Rolwaling, the village I study.
Six Pakistani men were the first on the summit, climbing without oxygen. They and three Sherpas using oxygen fixed the ropes through the Bottleneck. The Pakistanis still had enough air to yell several Zindabads on the top. These two teams have now made it safely back down through the Bottleneck and are resting in Camp 4.
I think this will be seen as the first day in a new era of Himalayan climbing, a joyful postscript to the problems on Everest.
Now fingers crossed for a safe descent for all.
Alan Arnette from Colorado is also on his way up, to raise money for Alzheimer's research.

So far in history 20 women have climbed K-2. Today saw summits by six of them.

Coloradoan Alan Arnette's GPS tracker indicates that he just made the top. He is summiting on his 57th birthday.

I've been following Alan's blog. The climb is for a very good cause, funding for Alzheimer’s research.
Excellent work, Sherpani's.
