I count 137 people there to climb (including one out of view in a chimney out towards the right-belayer has a yellow helmet and orange rope), plus however many hikers etc.

I spent an afternoon there with what I thought were some normal people. They weren't using ropes, but yeah, okay, it's not that tall. And then the sun went down, but that didn't make any difference.

Turned out they weren't normal people at all. Total madmen. When it got dark, they just lit a couple of lanterns at the base and carried on.

Which might have been okay for them, because they had every move of every climb wired. And they were seriously good climbers (Martin Boysen and Ken Wilson) but the lanterns really only lit the bottom fifteen feet or so, and I pretty much sh#t my pants.

It was my introduction to the concept that there were real climbers who didn't hang out in Squamish or Yosemite.

Killer interactive topo!

The real joke is, even with all those people, look at how many routes are still open.

Routes are open and the rescue crew is well trained.

You should see Rumney on a spring weekend. Freaking mob scene. Mostly Bostonians and Québécois.
