My money is on Locker and Anita. If I wasn't working so much my sh#t shovel would be slinging it.

Is a Gilchrist a holy fish? Mackerel?

Smells like rotten fish when he's around.

People take this stuff too seriously.

I can't imagine SuperTopo makes much money. Climbing guide books aren't a get rich quick scheme.

I wouldn't be surprised one day if there was a post saying that the whole thing isn't profitable, or they were sued, and everything's going bye bye.

I doubt the forum does much to bring in business, it's the same core posters who create most of the traffic. I don't really care how much effort is put into improving, it's not really that big of a deal. It sucks that people have to spend time policing the site instead of climbing, but rotten apples have to screw things up.

I understand calling the FBI, I don't think anything will come of it, but the stuff posted was WAY over the line. At least it gets it on record.

One thing that bothers me is this though:

These methods require us to add new data structures for tracking user activity in more detail, to enable enhanced methods of fingering abusers.

I know the guy was posting pics of his arsehole but that seems like an overreaction, and who's going to do it?

So people think things work fine here and they couldn't use any minor tweaks to enhance the user experience?

Typical complacent drones, too lazy for change.

RJ give me that fukkin ban button. I'll pick this f*#k up off its ass, hold on gotta go sharpen my axe then just give me the word and heads will roll.

Is this the dude who mentioned he climbed a 12a in the gym, and nobody gave a sh#t, so he got increasingly more insulting and defensive? He seems certifiable paranoid schizophrenic. Hopefully a lot of Thorazine is in his near future.

IP and Mac adress banning is a joke. They can both easily be bypassed. The only hope here is he runs out of email addresses to use. So expect to see him again. Report it and wait. That's the sum of internet forum security.

Bullshit to what Jim? If you think IP bans or Mac bans work you must be a fossil.

I think Jim is saying something along the lines of what I posted about talking with problem posters the very first time they are out of line crossed with Big Mikes sentiments of being empathic towards others.

Matt has issues and created this situation but it is interesting how many here put effort into helping Matt become a better person compared to those who judged him and matched his level of abrasiveness.

Same thing happened with Burchey when he first showed, fortunately for him he's a little more charming and a lot less rascist than Matt & was resourceful enough to find a way to stick around, until this.

Unless he was Matt?!?!

Diabolical!!

Anyways nice post Jim B.

RJ and Chris Mac if it keeps up you need a lawyer, that }#%€}%%€ is interfering with your business maybe even tortious interference...imagine those of us who look at the forum while at work or with kids around? How soon are we going to do that again when what pops up on screen are those images? You'll never stop him from making new user names cause clealy he knows how to do it from different countries' ip addresses. Good luck.

The idea of a review process for new users may be good but you never know what you'll get in the end. Maybe new users have to be recommended by an existing poster
who's legit.

I could care less if people trash the dude or hold his hand and try to make him a better human. The point I'm making is forum bans are a joke. They don't work. Never have never will.

Jim

The reality is this forum is both virtual and digital. lol As far as mental illness goes I've been around it more than most I can assure you.

All of this has nothing to do with my point though. Let me say it again:

BANS DON"T WORK.

That is all.

Ruppell you are on point in that aspect for sure.

The question I would then ask is why bother trying??

Especially if the result is causing the "banned" poster to become vindictive.

Thanks for the laugh.

Ryan

Why bother is the question. Most people when banned get the idea to act a little better with their next username. Some become vindictive and act even worse than before.

That was pretty much the point of my first post in this thread. Just report it and move on.
