I know "theres an app for everything" so I have a ?
Is there a app that identify's things. Like you are strolling around el cap meadow and you see a bug that is cool and you want to know what type it is. You take a picture through the app and it tells you what type.
You could have it with identifying plants, animals, rock...
If there is not, one of you engineer dudes should make one so we can use it!
PS: I ate chips yesterday so the teeth are pretty much 100%!!!

iBird Pro. One of the best apps in the store, and well worth the $5.
You can't take a photo, but you can narrow it down by state, month, and shape. And listen to the song. Usually works for me pretty quick.

I'd love an app like that being a relative hack at botany. I don't know of one though.
Ed's link is good, but calphoto is more inclusive with plants and crits

If you take an image on your cell phone can you plop it into Google image and find comparative images on the web?
Never tried it.
Usually I just show Debbie. She also does plant ID from the field, but usually for work

I wish there was an app like that! I think it's a long way off though, since most living things vary too much to be identified by a picture.
For example, if the app had all animals including humans what picture would it try to match up for human? Little dark pygmy lady or tall gangly albino dude? Good luck with Canis familiaris! The same plant at different elevations can look very different too.
I bet some genius will figure it out someday though!

An app to identify bugs??? On a "SMART" phone? Man get a guide book and go poke around. Its fun and you'll look all smart and stuff. ;-)

I'd be curious to see how that works since so many plants have variable leaves. If it narrowed it down that would still help I guess...
Try it on poison oak, it's not called Toxicodendron diversilobum for no reason
