Once, maybe twice a year without fail. A friend gave me a nice set of clubs and I feel obligated to get drunk and swing once in a while.

Golf is an insane waste of water. it does provide some vegatated covered and not concrete covered land in urban areas. I love the free groomed XC sking on the golf course 6 miles from my cabin. I also love the free groomed XC sking on the snowmobile trail 300m from the cabin though I dislike snow mobiles. Life is not always black and white......

KLISTER!

Slowly I step-turned, careful not to fall and embarrass myself. Inch by inch, foot by foot...and then I got a pie in the face!

I had to take a one-stroke penalty, too!

I never swung a club until I got married at age 32. My inlaws bought me lessons hoping I'd take up the game and do less climbing. All it did was create one more addiction.

I still miss my old clud (the Fort Washington Golf & Country Club), but financial reality set in 1999, after 14 fat years. I've played less than ten rounds since, but if my ship ever returns to port, I'll be back!

I always wanted to try a pitch from the Jungle at the top of the Arches to one of the greens on the old Ahwahnee pitch & putt, but that course disappeared several decades ago. I still think there must be some sort of climbing/golf/drinking triathalon possibility.

We climbers like to think that what we do is pretty special but I'm sure that the feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you're facing a tricky move 20 feet above your last sketchy pro is exactly the same as what that pro golfer is feeling when (s)he's looking at a long putt to win a major tournament.

Before you get your panties in a bunch notice I said feels the same not is the same because, obviously, the results of a failure to execute could be quite different.

Good point, magic Ed !!

Some pro golfers have quite literally missed a 3ft putt that cost them a million dollars, much more if you factor in endorsements for winning that Major. That's what they call a vomit putt

If climbers fall at the exact wrong moment they may face a million dollars in hospital bills

Home course of the Leisure Barons, the Rescue Site team long ago. A bag of clubs in the coffin was derigueur.

If you can't stand to be mediocre then golf has you by the self esteem.

We discussed having an El Cap Open with adhesive balls at one point. Mind the Hollow Flake, mate. Unplayable from in there...Aim straight for the back of the Heart with a slight fade.

At Wawona, do they still have that bizarre, gigantic periscope at one tee, so you can see if your hitting into someone? Or was that just the LSD I took?

DMT, I don't know if you're interested in improving your golf game, but I think I see some flaws in your swing if you are.
I'm not an expert golfer but I spent many years playing and studying instruction manuals.
I think you are setting up for too much "back and forth" (in the line along the direction of where your ball is and where you want it to land) and not enough rotation.
In other words, you're "sweeping" the ball along its path, which leads to an arms driven swing instead of a legs and back swing.
In still other words, you're not rotating your back enough--the line formed by your shoulder blades should be perpendicular to the target line.

Maybe someone else who is a better golfer than I am (or at least a better swing coach) can take a look at the picture you posted (2nd pic in your first post) and confirm my diagnosis.
Hope this helps.

Thank you blah blah. I had spinal surgery 6 months ago and it has been and had been bothering me for a couple of weeks prior. I almost cancelled out of the game. But this was with mi hermano and I hadn't seen him in a long time. We used to play a lot with our dad.

I gave up the game years ago.

This was the first time I played 2 or 3 years. The last time I played was with the same guys.

Thanks for the swing analysis. I didn't even warm up as I was late and walked straight onto the first hole t-box :)

Real men play baseball. Or soccer.

In Poland nobody plays golf. Unless a lot of alcohol is involved, of course.

I take it you lost the game.

On the contrary, I won.

I did not keep score. I lost 5 balls. I 4-putted a par 3. I refused to look at the course-map. I asked what club to use for every shot. I paid no attention to the scores of the others. I'm not sure they kept them.

I laughed a lot. I got through 18 holes of golf without hurting myself. I spent good time with my brother and nephews. We needed it too. Very much so.

I did not feel as though I'd wasted my time. I did not feel like hurling the clubs into the lake. :D I did not get upset at myself for not being any good at golf.

Yep. I finally won a round of golf. Only took me 30 years :)
