Dream on, Kalimon.

Lame is thinking that some of the TDF riders are not doping. Watch it for the scenery, the spectacle, the podium girls, whatever. But quit with the humble crap.

just ride your bike and shut up.

leave the real riding to the pros.

your not even good enough to lick their jock strap so STFU.

there ain't one person on the taco who could stay with the weakest rider in the tour for more than three seconds, and that's a fact.

Oh, geez, turns out TDF uber fans are a bit tempestuous. Guess they don't read books.

Don't get your spandex in a twist, girls, the race hasn't started yet.

I'll leave you to ooh and ahh over "the likes of Alberto Contador".

For the record I hope Wiggins is clean and wins. Pro cycling had become disgrace to those who didn't cheat and it needed a massive clean up, one that honors the achievements of the past.

If that clean/doping graph keeps the trend going, then my interest may return before long. Starting at 1996, it missed one of the great clean riders, Indurain.

Wiggins isn't racing this TDF. He doesn't fit into Team Sky's plan.

Not to derail this thread but did anyone follow the Race Across America? Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD...Christoph Strasser beat his own record this year at 7 days, 15 hrs, 56 minutes. I think that's just over 400 miles per day!

Indurain clean?

I had a poster of 'Big Mig' on my wall as a kid, but he was in no way clean.

man, I miss the 1980s. Cyclists did blow and raced, often on steel bikes. Groupies were still slutty and eager to please even the last guy in the peloton. The golden age.

crankster are you saying Froome is not clean?

Just curious, as I have no illusions about the performance enhancement that is prevalent in all professional athletics, especially sports. I am sure you know that Wiggins won the Tour of California this year, do you think he did it straight?

Cyclists have been "doping" since the early beginnings of the sport, that doesn't mean sh#t to me, I can still respect the effort.

I'm not sure. Just a bit bummed out by it all. I watched Wiggins blow up Mt. Diablo recently on the ToC.
As a Lance defender I said the words "he's the most tested athlete in sports" 1000x. Wrong.

Let's just say I'm cautiously optimistic. They're all clean until caught, I suppose.

Of course they're great athletes. But how many TDF's would Lance have won without it? We watch and marvel that they seem superhuman. Wish it was just on talent alone. Again, I don't know, maybe the last 2 years have been clean.

Thanks, I really appreciate your insight.

I think one has to let it all go, use our self delusion and simply enjoy the spectacle, as you said.

Back to the tour and it 'starting' in Yorkshire.

Yorkshire is a fantastic cycling venue with a rich cycling history.

In 1936 the One Year Endurance Record of 45383 miles was held by a Yorkshireman, Walter Greaves. Completed over 359 days as his bike was delivered late. All the more remarkable because Walter had but one arm!

Also check out this lady.

crankster are you saying Froome is not clean?

I'm going to claim Froome is suspect. After all the "clean" talk about renewal in the sport, Froome goes out and nearly matches Lance's best doped performance up Ventoux? If you smell smoke, chances are, there's some sort of fire somewhere.

As long as there's money in <anything>, there will be people cheating to try to get more of it. Same as it ever was.

hey there say, ... interesting share, from the non-bike-aspect of the race going through yorkshire, :)

my friend that lives in halifax, up in the moores... just called, 3-4 hours agao, and had this to share:

her lead-up first, was this:
have you heard about the tour de france?
and, remember, how are roads were suddenly getting fixed?

as it was--just before this, they had a 'sudden' fixing-up of roads that had needed repairs, but never seemed to done, way out in the 'rurals' etc...
well, she now understands of course why, she shared, along with this:

they needed the roads in repair, she said she found out, as:
all the cars from the 'watchers' would have be creating a huge mess, stuck out on the roads...

and now... a few spots along the road, for folks that own property close enough (one small local pub, for example) are now 'selling spots' for folks to sit...

however, for those that will park on these much better conditioned roads, they are informed that there will still be a HIKE up to view anything...

and the BURDEN part for the folks out on the moor, where she and her neighbors live is this:

they have been informed by LETTER that they may NOT drive out, with the use any roads--which are ALL CLOSED--under penalty of?? some kind of fine... until after sunday...

and that there is NO emergency ambulances, either, available, as, they went on stike... though they will have air-ambulance, available, she said...

THEY ARE ALLOWED though to walk down the long private drives, to get use any transport, set up, to take folks into town? (or just to see the best place to watch all this??) ...

feels so odd, she said, to be 'trapped, so to speak' on your property...

just thought it might be interesting to share this... not meaning anything bad about it all, as she was not... but it was all feeling
strange for them... kind of like the 'whole world' coming and going,
with the eyes on the race, and they as if 'hunkered down'
on their own, as the excitement builds just under their feet...

oh my...
least, they got their roads, around them there, fixed, ;))

:)

LIFE out on the moors, who'd ever think, so much commotion, :))

I'm not a doctor, but it looks like Cavendish broke his collarbone.

It was his fault, too.

Yes, that was all Cav.

Where was Simon Gerrans supposed to go?

I hope they are both OK but will be surprised if Cav starts tomorrow.

I jumped up when Cancellara came out of nowhere, that was great(almost)!

....and Navardauskas, I didn't know he could sprint like that!

I too will miss Pat Nay's savvy input.
