Just a little drizzle last night at 3000' in the Santa Cruz mtns.
The surface of the earth remains frighteningly dry.
Native grasses are less than 1/2 the height they should be in late April. Rainfall about 1/3 of normal.

Jim
Ya got snow? ENJOY it. Tomorrow will be clear and WARM in The Valley.
Showers again by the weekend (but not where I live)
Get It While Ya Can!

Meanwhile, light rain and snow forecast through Saturday for the Tetons. YAY! Last summer the snowfields had nearly vanished by late July. This year is looking better.

Nicely done!!!

While I selfishly hope it does snow some more, I'm stuck in the flats for a week at least, so there's a decent chance that the precipitation will be minimal. I'll warn you if I actually break free and can go climbing, since that usually brings storms.

I don't know, though, because my luck may be changing. I took a day off in January to climb in the Valley, and was greeted by warm sunshine.

zBrown, "Well done." (As opposed to frozen solid.)
But it's not what's for dinner. We're having noodles.

I hope Jim got out and found something to do...

fresh fresh is the best cure for athlete's foot.

if you ever get that climbing shoe itch,
walk around barefoot in
powder that has just fallen from the sky.

stay naked as long as your pain tolerance will allow;
after the suffering ceases,
you'll enjoy an itch-free stride.

Is it worth trying to climb tomorrow in the Valley after the sun comes out? How much time do routes on the north side need to dry off?

South facing steep routes dry quickly but I don't think the weather will cooperate tomorrow, perhaps Sunday.

I always have Yosemite to myself as long as I don't climb....the Nutcracker, Serenity/Suns, Central Pillar of Frenzy, East Buttress of Middle or El Cap and a few others. Remember....the 98/2 rule is actively enforced here.

edit: 3:30 pm thunder snow in Yosemite West.

Still raining here in the Santa Cruz mtns, slowly clearing. My weather reaches The Valley in about 24 hours.
1/2" of rain so far during this "storm". That's the modal rain event so far this season. Diddleysquat.
USDA released a drought map for California yesterday. The entire central coast from the Golden Gate to San Louis Obispo is rated Exceptional. The rest of the coast to Oregon and inland to the Sierra foothills: Extreme

I thought it might be wet in Yosemite today, after I noticed Donini posting repeatedly on ST.

Soxs over the rockshoes lads, and "you'll be right as rain!"

It appears in an earlier dictionary, A dictionary of slang, jargon & cant embracing English, American, and Anglo-Indian slang, pidgin English, tinker's jargon and other irregular phraseology (1890), by Albert Barrère:

Right as rain (popular), quite right, safe, comfortable.

There was six of us took the rattler at King's Cross by the first train in the morning, and we'd got three briefs and a old 'un with the date sucked off— right as rain we was ! We got a kerridge all to ourselves, nice and comfortable. — Sporting Times.
