This message from Micah this morning....

"Today I held a precious little girl who was sold by her father for drug money. She was found in a suitcase at someone's abandoned house. So many of these sweet faces have sold their bodies for just one meal a day. God has forever changed my heart! I will fight for justice and truth!"

I could not be more proud of my daughter!

Here is a portion of an email we received from Micah this morning....

"Something really gnarly happened this week. We went to Frangos, a local bar/restaurant with a group of 16 people. It was pretty late at night and there was a guy in his 50's at the bar...just smashed. Super sketchy. Anyway, in walks a group of girls around 13-15 years old...clearly prostitutes. They were all so beautiful. When you watch episodes of Cops or hear about hookers, for some reason my mind always thinks cracked out ladies who look nasty. But these girls were stunning and so young.

This guy at the bar started being super aggressive with the girls. Tying their hands behind their backs and being super handsy. He was so aggressive but when they would "get away" they would still come back. It made me feel so sick. I wanted to kick this guy in the balls and tell these young girls that they are worthy of so much more. They clearly weren't ever told how beautiful they are, or how they didn't have to sell themselves for a meal. Anyways, we left the same time this guy and a young girl left. He was grabbing at her and holding her hand. I felt so unbelievably helpless. I couldn't even communicate with these girls. All I could do was pray and hope they figure their life out. I feel like I'm going to learn a lot in this school and help see justice come to this Country. I know this happens all over the world, but being here just threw it in my face and it was awful.

Other than that I've been playing with the village kids. The girls have simply stolen my heart. The boys are taught to be sexually active at a super young age, so I try and focus on the girls, since you never know what the boys are thinking. I've been able to meet lots of people. And I have gotten really close to my roomies. I don't know how I'll leave them."

Micah is really loving her time in Mozambique.....and has fallen in love with the children there.

Sure miss my kid.

It's tough out there, no doubt.

“We have barely emerged from centuries of barbarism. It's not a surprise that there are shocking inequities in this world. It is hard work to climb down out of the trees and walk upright, and build a viable global civilization when you start with technology that is made of rocks and sticks and fur. This is a project, and progress is dificult.” -Sam Harris

“Every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life are based on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving.” -Einstein

Upward and onward. Cheers to Civilization wherever it's found.

From Micah today......
: )

This is what it's all about. This makes not having running water for four weeks, cockroaches in the latrines, mosquito, ant and bed bug bites, beans and rice every day, hand-washing clothes, and all those things that we are so fortunate to have in the states worth it. The moment you see that smile light up a room, nothing else matters!

On days off from school, Micah has the opportunity to journey to remote villages and work with the locals. She took a small tent along so she could do just that.

Here she is, along with fellow students, riding in the back of a truck to their destination...

cragman, is she still in Mozambique?

that's a long ways from Liberia but African containment of viral diseases is a total disaster; I hear the Peace Corps has evacuated from all of Central Africa

I hope she is safe !!

Yes she is. She graduates from her school next Tuesday, then is going to work in an orphanage in a small village for a couple of weeks.

She is due home on the 19th of August.
