If Sport climbing, where are the draws? You couldn't really lead any sport climb with what is pictured.

As a well known sport climber once quipped, "You can't have too many draws or be too thin."

Ah, draws. Well, you mean the slings doubled over dont work? Hm...

How many bolts is your average sport route these days anyhow? I have to ask, cause what i do is sew up 20-30 ft cracks with gear at my local bouldering crag, so i really dont know.

The knee pads are for when he graduates from sport to the Lost Arrow Chimneys of the world....only a matter of time.

Johnny, slings will be fine. Avg sport route has 10-13 draws. More if on the longer side.

The kid can buy some draws if he wants some nice clippy ones.

Yeah, um... Those are real harnesses, UIAA rating and all. YOU may not find them comfy, but they do catch falls.

Thanks for the advice though. I,m sure if the kid had a wad of money he,d buy his own stuff. And in time i,m sure he will. I,m just trying to give him a start that doesnt come from the hardware store.

Good Dad.

Set of hexes and stoppers would be good too. Show him how to set them real good. He's gonna need that skill to set up top ropes anyhow.

Oh, so a long piece of static line, maybe a cordalette or two.

Hmmmm. Climbing is such a whole-enchilada sport.

Ah, not my kid. Sorry, just a kid i work with. My own kids are not two years yet.

I dont want to throw him the whole shebang yet, he just asked if i could help him get some gear to toprope and maybe sport. Im encouraging him to search for other partners ar well, since i am so limited on time and opinion as to whats safe and how to climb.
