Hi,

Here is the information for booking camping for this year's Facelift.

We are now ready to take camping reservations for participants of Yosemite Facelift 2014. The event will start with an evening program September 23 and will end at midnight on September 28. If you would like to participate and reserve free camping during that, or part of that timeframe please email us at Yosemitefaceliftcamping@hotmail.com with the following information.

1. Campground preference in order from #1 to #3. In the Valley, Yellow Pines, Camp4, and Upper Pines are available. We also have Tuolumne sites available for the same dates.

2. We need to know what dates you would like to reserve. Start date and leave date.

3. We also need to know the number of folks in your party and their names.

This information is crucial to reduce the amount of work required to reserve this camping. We also would appreciate to hear of any changes or cancellations on your end promptly, so that we can accommodate you or others that may be on a waiting list.

We do have a limited amount of camping available prior to, and after the event for those that want to help with setup or with breakdown which is greatly appreciated. If you are interested please mention it when you are reserving your camping and we will try to work that out for you.

Thank you and hope to see you there,

Ken Yager

P.S. I need to thank Maureen for taking on the reservation task. I would also like to thank Black Diamond for their commitment this year. Evening programs will be announced later on when they are confirmed.

I highly encourage a few to remain after the event to help Ken take the Facelift infrastructure components back to storage in El Portel.

Good news bump, and e-mail sent. And thanks to Maureen (Lucky Pink) for agreeing to take on the campground bookings job - it's a huge one.

Werner, I was there after the FaceLift, and helped clean, put away, and pack up things. Essentially, whatever we were asked to do was done. IIRC we had to put some stuff into a bay behind the rescue cache, instead of taking it down to El Portal. The reason being that the cleanup was on Monday, September 30th - and on the morning of October 1st the NPS announced that the park was being closed, and that we all had to leave by noon on Thursday. Many people left on Tuesday, and by Wednesday morning they weren't allowing vehicles to re-enter the park, which was somewhat awkward in terms of taking stuff to El Portal.

So, sorry we didn't finish everything, but we did our best. We'll try to do better this year, and suggestions are welcome.

Howdy to everyone! Got your emails. replies will come out next week about thursday because I'm going on a backpacking trip this weekend and skiing one last day mid week next week so .... you know.

Here is some info:
UNLESS YOU HAVE MY PERSONAL PHONE NUMBER you can assume I cannot guess your name from the colloquialisms of your email.

you MUST include your first and last name, the first and last name of ALL people in your party (NPS) including the ages of your children attending if any. as well as your enter and exit dates and preference for camping.

Hi I want camp 4 there's 6 of us
will not get you a reservation UNLESS YOU HAVE MY PERSONAL PHONE NUMBER and then I of course know who you are and what you normally do when you get here.

If you have already sent an email that does not include this info just hang on and wait for the one I will send you requesting it. Because I probably know most of you who jumped on this starting at midnight last night. Rest assured you are taken care of.

this ship is gonna be TIGHT this year. Your cooperation, understanding, jolliness will be appreciated.

There's no time to climb for you.

You must work hard from sun up till sundown.

Then for dinner you get a thin gruel soup.

Then back to work scrubbing and mopping the valley floor all night to make it shiny and clean for the tourists ......

HDDJ: How much volunteer time is expected to get a campsite (in other words how much time will I actually get to climb if I go to this thing?)

It is entirely on the honour system, unless there's a change from the practice of the last seven years. In exchange for free camping, people are expected to make a significant contribution to the well-being of Yosemite National Park - within their abilities and means, of course. Not everyone can be a Stakhanovite like Ken or jstan. Usually there's a bit of peer pressure, especially for those camping with other FaceLifters. And there are lots of different ways to help, not just picking up garbage, trail and habitat work, and so on.

My rough rule of thumb is that in exchange for the free camping, draw prizes, evening programs and lots of fun, participants ought to contribute at least a half day helping in some way for each day they're there. And helping can mean a lot of things - sometimes it can mean thoroughly cleaning up the parking area, trail to a climb, the climb, and the descent therefrom - and incidentally doing the climb. That is, if the area needs to be cleaned.

Of course, if you're naughty, we'll send you over to Werner for some re-education. :)

Also, if you're there for the FaceLift, especially for those staying in Camp 4, it's simple to extend your stay afterward, at the usual $5/night. No waiting in line.

jstan: delighted to hear that PT will be gracing us with her presence at the FaceLift. There's more than enough room for three people and gear in my car, coming up from Modesto.

Anders, really good reference, but a little overhead for most.

"The Stakhanovite movement was named after Aleksei Stakhanov, who had mined 102 tons of coal in less than 6 hours (14 times his quota)."--WikiP

It dumped 4 ft of new snow at Kirkwood this past weekend.. I was a little busy. That and the Ferrari Challenge at Sonoma Raceway took up some attention.
Everyone who normally comes and who has emailed for a reservation already is/will be confirmed. It's all about Upper Pines right now. Can't let Skip and Erik take such a hit as last year.

Confirmations will come out with a lot of info about what Facelift is really about and what constitutes "free camping," just so there's no confusion. We're all one big work party here. Trouble makers from last year are already ID'd, heh heh.

As usual, plan on parking your car and leaving it for the duration. Leave your huge RV or extra long truck at home or buy your private space. If you come with a large party we may not be able to fit you all together in one camp space. Bear boxes are shared ie bring less and put it in a smaller cooler. There is no RV parking in Yellow Pines, same as it has always been.

It's all good, more later. Everyone here knows the drill.

Lollie I remember the licorice you brought last time was a trip. So glad your coming all that way again. You were missed last year.

Fred I think riding your bike to and from Yellow Pines is faster too.

Eric and Vicky brought a ton of veggies etc. Last year. Also put together the BBQ. That was awesome.

Anders thanks for shining some light on how things work at Facelift. Spending some time climbing is fine but we there to clean up during the day and party at night.

Bikes very good. I've ridden everywhere in the valley from Upper Pines, including up to Tunnel View. That was a bit of a workout for a once a year cyclists though on the way up. But still way fun.

Nothing like riding back to your camp after the evening program, whooshing through the dark, night smells and sounds all about, cool air numbing your hands!

I have just landed a sweet new job which I will start in the end of August. I'm happy for this. It does have a downside though. For the second year in a row I must most likely back off from coming to the Facelift, which I'm not equally happy for. But I probably can't, with a good conscience, be away 2,5 weeks after a month. Oh, legally I could, but I'm rather sure it's not a good idea.

This is not a final notice that I won't come, but I want to give you a fair warning that there might be a spot in Yellow Pines available. I will talk to them and find out if it's possible. If there's a boardmeeting during that time I cannot.

Only two weeks to go, to Yosemite Facelift 2014!! Actually a bit more than that, but close enough. Looking forward to another busy, fun week helping take care of a special place.

For those community-minded SuperTopians who also donate money to YCA, many of its expenses are in the period before the Facelift, so now is a good time to make a donation. Just go to the YCA website - http://www.yosemiteclimbing.org/ and click on 'donate'. And, if you're a resident of the USA, you'll even get a tax receipt, so that every dollar you give to the YCA will only cost you 60 or 70 cents in the end.

You are not going to believe me. I have finally figured out how to fix it when
only the leading edges of the rubber cups touch!

With this on my CV I am now qualified to work on the Saturn 5.

I am hoping to figure out how to spend a bit more time in Yellow Pines for events and music this year!

Bump for Facelift stoke!

Plan for me is to come home Wednesday before FL, try and grab a quick nap and then hit the road. Hopefully enough caffeine will get me there!

Sadly the wife will not be able to attend this year - her company has a huge conference coming up just after FL and she will be busy as hell till the middle of the following week. So it looks like I will be running stag this year.

On the good side though, my vacation time got approved, which means that Plaid and I will be scratchin our way up Skull Queen after the festivities. Looking forward to seeing y'all!

I bought a ukelele while I was in Hawaii, but I haven't had time to mess with it much. Will probably bring along a guitar for the jam sessions though!

I get to come this year! Thought that slave driver Clemments would keep me from It but no! Guess I'm too late to get a campsite so I'll be in Camp 4. No condo this year. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Skull King off, he took his ukelele home in a bag, a leak-proof bag, and stayed there forever.

One for TRavis the Vegan that Andy taught to Bob.

I did some mountaineering trips with Jim quite a ways back. Good guy. Machine on the trail. Could never keep up.

And never, never, mess with his morning coffee! :-)
