... trying to out-fly a cliff band, realizing I wouldn't make it, and opening only 30 feet off the deck.
Nice save. Glad you lived to tell.

Once BASE jumping no longer has the same excitement it did originally, you look for new ways to make it exciting by trying new things.

Is this why most jumpers don't hold their drag chute in their hand, but instead pull it out of the side of their packs and toss it?

Team BODYBAG because on every trip it just may come in handy

Base449 thinks 'your just a quiter' Chris. I guess cause you didn't die doing it.

Great little piece, didn't know about the lack of any skydiving training though.

Isn't that a serious breach of BASE code?

I had a climber base hero but he's dead. He warned people to not take up base because the reward to risk ratio is wrong. Before you spew, his name was Xaver Bongard. I know Shane's ex. I knew Stanley.
Some are here to control and mediate the risk. Some just thrive on risk. I keep hearing the junkies say that it's a "life wish". I think it's addiction to the joy of surviving.
Like in skiing the goal is mastery not controlled recoveries.
The bold and careless make a crucial error when they dismiss the sane view. They forget that many of us have survived many times and that we have been cavalier and brash. They ignore that we know their thrills but they dismiss what they haven't learned yet.
What did Bachar say?' If you're not dumb then you'll go back down.'Or something like that.
Then again, there's plenty of humans and misfits. No matter how much sympathy you get when you crater doing something crazy, you also get a big dose of "No duh."
Then again I don't hang out with "just do it" " go for it" "die young" "go big or go home" types.
If you are feeling challenged by me just please remember that climbers are a fringe group engaging in a pointless and risky endeavor. That's us.
If "climbing the walls" is a metaphor for going crazy then what would "...and jumping off" mean?
Now if you are really butthurt I would remind you that base is not climbing. Might I suggest skiing which takes decades to master, is far more athletic, is mountaineering, will give you endless thrills and....wait for it.......is a lifelong healthy activity, like climbing.
As you were.

Thanks DMT. I don't mind being thought a grumpy coward. I know that I'm trying to protect the easily suggestible and naive.
