Had an MRI a few weeks ago that showed a mild stenosis at C5/6.

Doc I went to today is a spine specialist here in LA....highly recommended.

I had a lumbar/sacrum shot.
Only time in a hospital/alien abduction.
It helped.

Yes(Lumbar though).
Not bad - more mental than physical in terms of stress IMO.

I have a brother that had a very similar issue- some degradation in the spine,, but it turned out to be an impinged nerve. Had that fixed and didnt get anything further..The EMG test is the only thing that tells that sort of nerve issue from what ive been told. GOOD LUCK CRAG!

From all my research, and what the Doc is telling me, this will likely take care of the issue for me. I certainly didn't want to hear I needed the knife.

Hoping for full restoration.

Cragman: Since you are having the procedure in two days, it appears you are suffering from a little bout of Cognitive Dissonance.

Not uncommon, but it is unlikely you will agree with any advice at this time that conflicts with the decision you have made.

Best Wishes for your decision being the correct decision!

Here's Wikipedia's take on the subject.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance

Leon Festinger's theory of cognitive dissonance focuses on how humans strive for internal consistency. When inconsistency (dissonance) is experienced, individuals largely become psychologically distressed. His basic hypotheses are listed below:
1."The existence of dissonance, being psychologically uncomfortable, will motivate the person to try to reduce the dissonance and achieve consonance"

Dude, if I may be so familiar, please get a second opinion. I know it is just me
but there's something about sticking sharp objects into the neck or back that gets me.

Cragman! Re your comment on my post:

Fritz....don't over think it, pal.

Yep! Simple but common: Cognitive dissonance.

It is unlikely you will agree with any advice at this time that conflicts with the decision you have made.

Best Wishes for your decision being the correct decision!

(as I mentioned previously.)

Hardly on here these days, but I'm glad I caught this thread…

Best wishes for a full, fast recovery Dean. You'll be in our thoughts and prayers the next couple of days as you build up to and recover from the procedure. Here's to hoping you'll be back in fine form for spring in the Sierra and summer in the Meadows.

I had a bulging disc in C6/C7. Did two injections and they didn't help, so my doc said no need doing a third. I didn't get surgery, took it easy for awhile and that seemed to help. Now I get a pinched nerve every couple of months, but it's way better than constant pain. I would try the injections first then go from there. I do know people who've had the surgery and it really worked for them. Good luck.

Had a couple Lumbar injections a few years back. Seemed to help quite a bit but I think it is largely a temporary fix. Not sure how your insurance work but in my case the the injections were quite costly and were basically an out of pocket expense until my deductible was covered.

My personal feeling was that they were not worth the expense but I do think they lowered my pain level quite a bit.

Yeah the injections don't fix the problem they help against the inflammation and do a temporary fix pain wise. I feel your pain Cragman, each day around noon my head would feel too heavy for my body and all I wanted was to lay down. You having numbness in your fingers?
