Castle hill was an "escape" area for me. Living at Mt Cook, after weeks of rain, a few of us would pile into a car late at night and end up at Castle hill the next day. It was a different world, a great escape. Camping at Craigieburn was a hoot.

I met my wife there as well, who was a student at the Chch Uni at the time. We left NZ in 98. We have a nice large photo of Flock Hill in our home here (Breckenridge, CO) so we never forget what a special place it is.

"Thanks Graeme. RE: climber.co.nz, I'll give it some serious thought. If your interested check out my other post "New Zealand: Nelson Lakes National Park""

No worries. The local forums in NZ are seriously dead - they could be very useful if more people posted to them, especially interesting old stuff like this. I've taken the liberty of cross posting them - other folks down here would be interested for sure

Some classics there. The Perfume Bottle is the feature - the route is " That Obscure object of Desire"
