More good stuff Avery.

When was this??

I thought this was primarily a bouldering area.

How much roped climbing is there?

I could learn more.

Hey MMCC, All the photos that I've posted here were taken between 1990 and 1994. As for the lack of names, I only got the OK to post these pics as long as everyone involved remains anonymous!
If you climbed at Castle Hill around the above period then chances are we probably do look familiar. Although we were enthusiastic climbers there was no way we were at the "cutting edge".
Thanks for the feedback. I've still got a few to post yet!!

Nice to hear from you Levy.
After your countless routes on El Cap almost anything would appear on the small size. There are, however, many stunning rope routes and the bouldering possibilities are almost endless.
Personally speaking, the primary attraction is the stunningly beautiful area the rocks reside in.
Hey Levy, come on over to NZ and "test the water"!

Castle hill was an "escape" area for me. Living at Mt Cook, after weeks of rain, a few of us would pile into a car late at night and end up at Castle hill the next day. It was a different world, a great escape. Camping at Craigieburn was a hoot.

I met my wife there as well, who was a student at the Chch Uni at the time. We left NZ in 98. We have a nice large photo of Flock Hill in our home here (Breckenridge, CO) so we never forget what a special place it is.

No worries. The local forums in NZ are seriously dead - they could be very useful if more people posted to them, especially interesting old stuff like this. I've taken the liberty of cross posting them - other folks down here would be interested for sure

No, ß Î Ø T Ç H, I'm sorry to say.

I basically retired from serious climbing after a bad fall in 1988. I was lucky to survive.
But I still love the rocks and the mountains and its only been in the last 6 months that I began to feel a genuine enthusiasm for a return to climbing for the first time in over 20 years.
Where it will lead me , who knows.

Thanks for asking.

Avery,

My bud Geoff finally showed up at the local gym two years ago, after many invites. He had stopped climbing for 12-13 years, he still surfed during that time. So he opens his pack and pulls out an old harness and a pair of Boreal Fires. I told him he was very dated, but we could help.

Now he is climbing strong and has TC-Pros. Your pics reminded me of this.

Hi Loose,

Interesting piece of news.I must admit I've never heard of the problem!

No, I don't think I've done that problem in the pic.

I haven't rock-climbed in 22 years, so I'm some what out of touch.

Cheers,

Avery

Hey Loose,

It's not my pic.

It comes courtesy of the Tony Burnell collection.

Cheers!
