I agree with HighTraverse. The way I see it others start the name-calling.
Maybe some of the so-called high and mighty deep thinkers should learn some
manners and how to have a conversation without resorting to grade school antics.

Norton,

Maybe it's Ron, because he is now the only one voicing the reality of the world and so many ST'ers desire fantasy world.

Hope you're doing well.

Hi Jeff!

So happy to see you back here posting again, can't tell you how I have missed you.

In fact, I still think about you every time I take a dump.

Best wishes Fatty!

Its just that, well. Fattrad doesn't know where to draw the battle lines.

what a shame

and ChrisMac agrees, he has banned you a couple of times

yet here you are again

how long do you figure until this new username is deactivated again, Jeff?

you think he links it to your home IP address, are you posting from Taco Bell now?

regardless, but aren't you a ray of sunshine today on this thread!

say, are you, Lois, and Rokjox still living together?

We are missing many a poster from days gone by here. They leave due to the in house bicker-fests

Let's see a list of these "many". I can think of exactly one.

Users come and go. Life gets in the way - kids, career, health; and people's interests change. Same thing happens on every niche forum regardless the topic, could be woodworking, knitting, or football team fan sites, it's all the same.

One of the problems IS the instant access to this media and the hard time people have handling it. I thought Craig Ferguson was right on (while being funny as hell) when he said you need to ask yourself 3 questions when responding; Does this need to be said? Does this need to be said by me? Does this need to be said by me now? It's funny because there is a grain of truth at the root of that skit.

Sad to say, I haven't heard from Crowley in several years.

I do miss him and most of the other posters who've gone AWOL, other than the obvious hucksters and spammers. And I, at least, would feel impoverished if Ron, apogee, or any of the other regulars quit posting, voluntarily or otherwise.

I guess I don't see much difference between posts on a thread and stations on the broadcast spectrum. Just because they exist doesn't mean I need to tune in to every one. Am I alone thinking this?

As the saying goes...

If you run into an a@#hole at the coffee shop, then maybe he really is an a$#hole. If you run into an a#$hole at the coffee shop, at the gym, at work, at the store etc. Then you're probably the a@#hole.

Or something like that.

Thanks for the OP, Ron. I appreciate your sentiment and want to encourage it.

Sometimes I laugh hysterically at the insults that get flung back and forth. (Norton, "I think about you every time I take a dump.") Pretty funny, unless the target does not appreciate the joke. Then it is not funny and deserves an apology.

But, we can't force anybody to apologize. We can't force anybody to not fling insults. We can't force anybody to understand our perspective.

In this forum and internet forums in general, it takes quite a bit of time and effort to write thoughtful and helpful posts. It takes no time and minimal effort to post quick insults and nonsense. Therefore it is perhaps inevitable that insults and nonsense will outweigh thoughtful posts. I try to wade through and look for the interesting posts in the mix. Some people I tend to mostly ignore, but sometimes posters that I dislike, post really interesting comments or stories.

As a liberal, I often find the posts of the conservatives here disheartening. Not so much because of the specific positions taken, but because of the ways they are expressed. I see a lot of arguments here that are supposedly over particular positions or views. Yet it strikes me that the arguments are really over the ways each party expresses themselves. Like people are trying to play different kinds of music at the same time. One person is playing blues and the other is baroque. They just annoy each other, but can't figure out why. So they assume the other guy is stupid or deliberately mean.

It takes some patience to pull back and think,"Are we really talking about the same thing? Why is this person's perspective so different from mine?"

Fatty! I always enjoyed you on this site when you were being fun, intelligent, & witty.

When you argued for the sake of arguing, I tuned out.

I think! Too many people on this site have keyboard diarrhea, or take these e-arguements entirely too seriously.

Namaste.

It's really all about enjoying the mountains.

Or do you want to argue?

I honestly don't know. I skim some threads, usually get bored with the topic by the first or second post, and then move on. I know what threads to post on when I'm feeling like a dick and have convinced myself that I rarely deviate from that pattern. I could be wrong... but that would be a first.
