little z-
We drove to where a small village was, and then hired mules. We then hiked 6-8 hours into the drainage to reach the river that make the headwaters of the Platano. We didn't see sign of folks (other than Mayan stuff in the caves) for 8 days.
150 miles of pure wilderness!

I brought down several masks and snorkels to give the indians. I found it fun that they would catch prawns and put them in the eye pieces of the mask!

The trees were amazing. This is a standard tree not some giant one.

Have you ever gone neck deep to look for things without shoulders?

Did you climb into the canopies of any trees?
When I worked in Hawaiian rainforests I used to climb up on the vines that grew up the trunks of huge trees. It is a trip looking down on what seems like the floor of ferns, but that was hiding the real ground 10 feet below.
What about research into poisonous/venomous stuff? I would be afraid to hop in the water near the edges, or just go tramping through dense undergrowth without know which of so many different species there can screw me up.

importanat to take a gun for poisonous/venomous stuff on a trip like that. Then, if you get bit you can put a bullet in your head, cause you ain't getting to the hospital in no hurry.

We did not see a fer-de-lance or Bothrops asper. Though I am very familiar with them. We spent our time when not floating, climbing tributaries to look for frogs snakes and other nocturnal critters. During the day I would hunt snails and mussels, while fishing for dinner.
My brother is a herpetologists I am a lowly malocologist.

the question is, how many fer-de-lances saw you.
