I am floating the Rio Platano in mid February. It is a 10 day class 3 float. We have mules arranged to get the rafts to the river (one day hike). We will need to portage two sections.
Anyone interested? Let me know ASAP

Sounds like a great adventure!
I tried uploading some pictures from the web, but the upload feature doesn't seem to be working right now.

I have hired Jorge Salaverri (ex Honduran Special Forces, and has babysat Bear Grylls for Central Amereican shows. Jorge is a friend of my family, and pioneered the modern descent of this drainage.
Sorry H, I didn't receive your PM. We are only looking for 2 more folks to join, if not I will still be there in three weeks!

John, thanks for the pictures. Some look to be from the Rio Cangrejal. Just a thought!
My brother is a herpetologist, and I am a malacolgist/fisheries guy. I am not aware of any studies/surveys performed here.
Not sure if Unionidae species are even present! But I will find out.

Sierra ledge Rat, you may be right. That is part of the unknown.
Also that picture may be from the Congrejal River, not the Platano Rio.

Edwardmw, I agree, I may have misspelled it. Sorry for any confusion. How about the Rio Platano!
