This morning on today with Tom Brokaw. Seems Tom let h off easy and fed him answers at difficult pauses. Sorry for reporting but spelling and comprehension bad this morning after climbing yesterday until the afternoon and the driving all night to get home with four of us in the car.

Didn't catch it all but he didn't seem very sorry. Was in Bozeman this weekend and it kind of makes me ill to think he is living in one of those mansions when he collected pennies from practically every school kid in america for a time to promote his cause. I think he did some good, but but not what he should have considering the money he collected.

I saw it.

Not the first time I was disappointed with Brokaw.

Mortenson has done irreparable harm to charitable giving and ought to be pilloried.

You all just love beating a dead horse, don't you. When you write your autobiography, guess what? You have the First Amendment right to tell your tale in any way you see fit, whether anyone agrees with you or not. This character assignation not only took education out of the hands of the poorest kids in the world, right into Krak's pocket. Only the By-Liner proceeds went to SGT, the random House version went right in his pocket. Let me leave youbwithnthis image, the actual writer, David Renlin, laid down on railroad tracks and took his life after the frivolous law suit was appealed, and lost, you Krak supporters spend too much time at altitude to see the path of death and destruction that follows Krak like a dead fish. So go on, keep kicking Mortenson like a dead horse because he is still building schools while Krak tears down reputations, and enriches himself. Ten thousand curses on all your thick heads.

And in your doubtful biography, Kathryn, because you will go down as someone who never made a difference in anyone's life, you will be recorded as the defender of a thief of children, reasoning that stealing from thousands of American children to enrich yourself is alright, as long as your scraps go to a very few even less advantaged children...maybe.

Hater of American Children....I like that for your tombstone.

David Relin (spell the guy's name right) ended his own life for reasons we'll never know. He was, as stated above, "the actual writer." This is a fact that Mortenson all but denied UNTIL the account was called into question. Then he was quick to throw Relin under the bus (bad metaphor, sorry). The idea that Krakauer played a role in Relin's depression is absurd.

http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/04/05/11041376-three-cups-of-tea-author-greg-mortenson-must-pay-1-million-to-charity?lite

Award-winning “Three Cups of Tea” author Greg Mortenson has agreed to pay $1 million to a nonprofit he co-founded to settle allegations that he misspent charity money on personal items such as plane flights for family vacations and iTunes downloads, the Montana attorney general said Thursday.

In a 44-page report, Attorney General Steve Bullock said a yearlong investigation by his office concluded that Mortenson mismanaged his nonprofit, the Bozeman-Mont.-based Central Asia Institute, and personally profited from it.

“Mortenson’s pursuits are noble and his achievements are important. However, serious internal problems in the management of CAI surfaced,” Bullock said in the report.

"The most vociferous denouncer of Krakauer has been Kathryn O’Hehir, a U.S. citizen who currently works at a language school in Beijing. For months, O’Hehir has been blasting him on her blog about his alleged bias. Her comments are sometimes thought provoking, sometimes rough-and-tumble, and sometimes profane. In one entry, she chastised plaintiffs’ attorney Larry Drury in a poem that consisted mainly of F-bombs, angered by her belief that her e-mail had been hacked—possibly by someone on the plaintiffs’ side.

O’Hehir had no connection to CAI, but she feels strongly enough about Mortenson and his nonprofit that she flew from Beijing to Chicago last October to hear Mortenson speak at the Bridges of Peace conference. She decided to go even after he canceled, and she planned to confront Krakauer if he showed up. “He would have had to deal with me in his face,” she told me. Why does this controversy mean so much to her? She believes Mortenson is a good man who created an effective organization and that Krakauer is determined to destroy him, motivated in large part by competitive envy.

I had not heard he was to have to pay back some money. Apperently had a half million sitting around. What do people make off of best selling books? How much did the author(Rellin?)make?

Krakauer is a self promoting publicity hound who doesn't done much good for society as far as I can see.
Greg Mortenson is a person who started off with good intentions, carried through with his intentions and efforts, and actually accomplished a ton of good work, building schools and educating kids who never would have had that chance. How much good work has he done? Probably far more then all his haters combined. Is there a chance he got lost along the way, probably, but does that erase all the good he has done? No, he has Jon Krakauer and company to thank for that.
