Maybe the weather will keep everyone in watching the films? I'll be there but doubt I'll be on the rock at all!

First night and all I can say is OMG. And I usually don't do valley (the other kind of valley) speak. I was brought to tears.

I can't tell you how moving this festival is.
It's something. Just something.

That's awesome Susan! Thanks for coming! It's been an amazing 4 days of film and fun, and I'm so stoked to have had Jelly Bread rock us out last night!

We need something like this on the East Coast, but then again--it isn't Yosemite. It would of been fun to take this in.

Great job Steve, that was an awesome weekend! Thanks for taking the time to put it all together.

Lots of GREAT films (I'm looking online to try to watch the ones we missed), but I think my favorite was watching you try to be in five places at once.

It was great Steve. I was educated, entertained and deeply moved. Many hankies were passed between me and the crusty Ferretlegger as we watched The Wolf and the Medallion . I was familiar with his work from Facelift a few years ago when The Border Country was shown. But this one .... Taking live action, animation, a climbing epic culminating in a letter to his young son with 10 lessons of life is nothing short of astounding.
If you can get to a festival or event where it is playing...do go. As one film reviewer said about it "if you see one film this year, this is it"
Trailers and the "10 things" links...

Thank you Steve for your hardwork. I hope this becomes as much a part of Yosemite as Facelift!

[Click to View YouTube Video]This does a little to give the idea of how good this group was.

I spoke with drummer extraordinaire CLIFF PORTER (sic!) on Sunday morning as the band members were loading the van to head back to Reno. He loved that they were able to play at the inaugural event and he thinks it's a good way to spend a rainy weekend in the Valley, no-brainer!

There is tremendous freedom to move around, here, too, based on the scheduling of the films--two venues, side by side. You can spend more time outside when the weather's nice, of course, but the flexibility in times and the number of repeat showings over the course of the festival is a very good feature.

AND the host, YO STEVE, is an infectiously energetic man who knows his stuff. His lady, Athena, is to be envied.

A very high rating for this event, a real great addition to CLIMBING EVERYWHERE, not just in California.

And the news flash, of all news flashes, not ALL the films are about climbing.

MILE, MILE AND A HALF was soooooo good! And the crew, Durand, Jason, Ric, Zee, & all, who collaboratively walked the miles and collected the smiles, they are all SOOOOO FRIENDLY, and little miss Isola is such a great dancer, too! It was a thrilling story of the last big winter in the Sierra Nevada, when we had a 200% snowpack year, just prior to the beginning of the current drought, and a 25-day effort on the JMT. It was like a sledge hammer blow to the already dehydrated, realizing this, and it was a great tale of gritty determination and trail friendships. Four stars.

THANKS, Yosemite STeve!!!!

edit: I meant to include the fact that ST is a sponsor of the event. I also caught the credit for Chris McNamara as a cameraman in Sufferfest.

Thanks for the kind words Mouse, Susan, Daniel, et al.

The highlight of the Range of Light Film Festival for me was opening night, presenting "Yosemite: The Fate of Heaven" and spending time with my filmmaking hero Jon Else.
