In my hometown there was a father named Manley Butts and he had a daughter Minnie. I didn't believe it when my father told me and I looked it up in the phone book (yes, it was a long time ago) and there was the name. I wasn't able to confirm the "Minnie" daughter but I'm pretty sure it was true

I knew this guy in junior high named Robin Hood....He was hunting jack rabbits at the long beach airport with a bow and arrow when the cops confronted him...The poor guy ended up dying a year later after he got food posioning from a mexican restaurant...

I usually work at my home office, a converted garage, but today I was having to edit something so I was in a video post house. Virginia Wood ran the Pro Tools (sound mixing) rig. When I mentioned that morning wood was a known commodity to basically half of the world's population she said, "I get around some." And laughed.

There was a company in my home town that did business under a sign "Seymour Bush and Sons"
But the best one I know of was a prank played by one of the guys in the old Squamish Hardcore in the 70s. He managed to convince the phone-book company to include an entry in the Vancouver White Page for "Rection, Hugh G." It ran for several years if I remember correctly.

The Chief Clerk, a mischievous Brummy abbreviated it on the HQ Telephone directory. Sadly (for Maj Head) it was to expensive to get reprinted.

A friend was just over who knew a guy named Claud Foot. In addition to that travail during WWII the US Air Force made him crawl into a coffin-sized cubicle in the nose of a special recon version of the P-38 Lightning to man the cameras. I guess they figured if he could bear his name he could bear claustrophobia, extreme cold, and abject terror for many hours.

Had a client call to place an order, "Can I get your name please? Kent. Can I get your last name? That is my last name. OK, what is your first name. Clark." We paused, he had to be waiting for it. Finally, all I could think of was, "Your parents sure had a sense of humor." "Ah hum" was all I got as a reply. oops. Proceed with order, do not mention name again, do not snicker, guffaw or snort. Make sale. Hung up, rushed into the shop to tell everyone and had a good laugh.
This person might be a climber, he was a backcountry skier.

While hitchhiking this winter for a day of skiing at Taos Ski Valley, I got picked up by a black man. Turned out to be the urologist at the local hospital. His name? Alden Cockburn.
I kid you not. You can google him: "Taos urologist."
He told me that he decided to become a urologist - in part - to take advantage of his name! We both laughed about that. Also told me he's been the butt of a few jokes that made prime time. Like Jay Leno and the Tonight Show.

My brothers knew a Harley Davidson in junior high school.
And then there was the Tak Kee Hat Shop at the ferry terminal on Lantau Island (part of Hong Kong). But that's just a funny transliteration of another language.
The Chinese in Hong Kong often have two first names, one Cantonese, one English. There are some pretty funny ones. My wife used to work with a guy named Winky. This was in a pretty corporate setting.
A humorous columnist from my days there, Nuri Vittachi, wrote a funny article about such names. His were made up, but not that far off. My favorite he came up with was Anthrax Chang.

Well, some actors take stage names for several reasons, if there is already an actor that was registered with SAG, for example Micheal Keaton's real name is Michael Douglas but that name is already taken, or they change their names to make them more "star-able"
or Boris Karloff was really William Henry Pratt,
but Hal Linden (you know, Barney Miller TV series) was born Harold Lipschitz. I think I'd change my name too.
