It fails way too often, who in their right mind would prescribe to this ridiculous notion?

Brandon, I knew you were hiding something from us.
You used to be in the J Geils Band, didn't you?

LOL, just messing around. Maybe I'll pull this OT thread.

Lynne, good question.

To me, love is when you discover that a friendship would harm you deeply and truly on an emotional level were it to end.

It's wanting and hoping to be able to help someone in a time of need, even if it means going WAY out of your way to help and being stoked about it. (Not only mileage wise, but getting out of your comfort zone to help)

It's when you see someone who is close to you, of either sex, and you're truly stoked to hang with them again.

To me that's love.

I've spent a week in the ICU in Salt Lake City with a friend who I love, just chilling with him as he convalesced enough to make the ride back to Tahoe. My dog lived in my truck in the valet parking of the SLC Hilton the entire time. Weird times, but my friend needed me to be there with him. He hit his head and lost all sense of taste or smell. I love him as a friend, so was there the entire time.

I sacrificed, and that's love.

My ex was diagnosed with cancer. We were still good friends. I quit my job and moved back to NH. We went to appointments at the Dana Farber Cancer Center together, though we were not a couple. She is cancer free for seven years now. I didn't cure her cancer, but I appreciate being there with her through that.

I love her, so that's what I did.

Love is a broad term, and shouldn't be used only for romantic connotations.

You're a good man Brandon.

Love can mean many things.

One of my favorite pieces of art is but a spray painted quote on a blasted rock on the hwy between whistler & pemberton. In messy letters it just says:

"Love heals all"

The fact that someone felt compelled to stop & get out of their car in the middle of nowhere & paint a selfless statement like that for all to see is inspiring for some reason. No ego, no so & so was here, no bill loves Jane, just a message that all humans could benefit from if they actually thought about for a minute. Some would call it a stupid tag but I'd call it true art, the real deal & believe it or not that little reminder probably changed my life. Wish I had a pic.

On a more serious note-

I always liked this take on I love as well.

The yogi tea quotes are often trite or nonsensical but sometimes they hit the truth

"Where there is love, there is no question"

There's a similar graffiti piece on a rock near my home.

It reads 'Chicken Farmer I Still Love You.'

It's been there since the seventies, and every time the DOT removes it, someone replaces it.

It's a local testament to love.
