Ray Bradbury (thanks blahblah) captured the sentiment well in the Martian Chronicles,

Its like finding out the Romans died of athlete's foot.

Some words about what motivates Schumacher and his former accidents:

"Several newspapers have reminded readers of Schumacher's lucky escapes in the past. Schumacher's first title-winning season was marked by the tragic death of Ayrton Senna, but the German often experienced near misses. He survived crashes unscathed in 1995 and 1998. In 2001, Schumacher broke his lower leg during a training accident. In February 2009, he had to postpone his comeback after a motorcycle crash, in which he fractured his skull.

Felix Gorner, a racing reporter from RTL television channel, said the latest accident could only be understood within the context of Schumacher's history as a F1 driver. "He wanted the adrenaline rush, he needed to test his own limits", he said, pointing out that the other hobbies Schumacher had taken up included motorbike racing and skydiving. His former manager Willi Weber had described Schumacher as an "adrenaline junkie"."

I'm hoping Schumi pulls through. On the circuit Schumi was an absolute beast. A machine solely focused on winning. But everything I've ever read and have seen of Schumacher outside of the racing world shows a different Michael; a generous and caring person. I remember when his body guard was killed in the Philippines Tsunami he donated 10 million dollars...I remember reading that was more than some countries! He adopts stray dogs he finds at races! And he's "keen on rock climbing" so I hope he pulls through because he seems like a generous, good human being.

The topic isn't so OT after all...

Locker, when you posted then deleted how this is big news in the climbing world with a bold TFPU. That really shows how much you care about the incident. I should have just let it go but I posted your link about another non-climbing legend. Then you decided to make this thread about arguing.
I am at fault too. Nowhere have I said it would have been better to die in a motor crash. My point was I am bummed to see a guy survive one of the deadliest sports and at such a young age fighting for his life cause of skiing. He is an adrenaline junkie, just like the rest of us and hopefully he continues to be.
